Paul Estermann (2013)

Paul Estermann (born June 24, 1963 in Lucerne , Canton Lucerne ) is a Swiss show jumper .

In February 2013 he was at number 61 in the world rankings (No. 145).

Career

Estermann grew up on his parents' farm and completed an apprenticeship as a farmer after school. In 2001 he opened his own riding facility in Hildisrieden . In 2012 he started with Castlefield Eclipse at his first Olympic Games . The Swiss team took fourth place there with 16 penalty points.

In 2012 he achieved seven zero-error laps in Nations Cups . For this he was named Rookie of the Year and Rider of the Year . Beginning in June 2014 won Estermann with Castlefield Eclipse the Grand Prix of Switzerland CSIO 5 * in St. Gallen.

Legal proceedings

In September 2019 Estermann was convicted of multiple animal cruelty by the Sursee public prosecutor's office. The public prosecutor's office assumes that in April 2016 Estermann hit his mare Castlefield Eclipse several times with a dressage whip in Hildisrieden knowingly and deliberately several times violently and excessively against the flanks and lower abdomen. With this he wanted to achieve a better training result. The horse was injured as a result of the lashes. In addition, Estermann is said to have hit and injured a second horse in the same way.

Estermann has objected to the penalty order.
