Horses & Dreams is an international horse show that is held annually at the end of April / beginning of May in Hagen in the Teutoburg Forest .

Horses & Dreams will be held on the facility of Ullrich and Bianca Kasselmann on Borgberg in Hagen am Teutoburg Forest. The tournament is organized by the Reitsportclub Osnabrücker Land e. V. and organized by PSI Equestrian Organizations Company Ltd., the latter organizes an internationally known auction of sport horses at the same location.

The tournament is held on two tournament grounds (one dressage and one jumping arena ) and in a riding hall (for regional competitions), surrounded by a large exhibition and sales area. The peculiarity of the tournament is that it has a different theme every year, which affects the sports and show program and the exhibition area. The tournament is usually the first international tournament of the "green season" in Germany.

history

The tournament history began in 1997: In that year the first international youth equestrian festival, a dressage tournament for riders up to 21 years of age, was held at the Kasselmann farm. In 2000 the European Pony Rider Championships in dressage, show jumping and eventing took place here. The European pony rider championship for dressage and eventing riders also took place in 2002 in Hagen.

Also in 2002, the youth equestrian festival was renamed International Riders Festival - Horses & Dreams. This renaming was accompanied by the creation of tests for riders over the age of 21. The professional equestrian championship for dressage riders has been held here since 2003.

In 2005, the tests for riders over the age of 21 were advertised internationally for the first time, initially as CDI 3 * and CSI 1 *. In addition, the tournament was held once over two weeks. For the next two years only the dressage tests were advertised internationally. The year 2008 brought big changes for the tournament: the big jumping and dressage tests were announced as CSI 3 * / CDI 3 *. In addition, the youth jumping competitions, which have since become the German Nations Cup tournaments for juniors and young riders, were held as a separate tournament in June.

In the following year, the youth dressage tests were moved to the June tournament, which again bears the name International Youth Equestrian Festival. In 2010, the pony show jumping Nations Cup was added to the youth equestrian festival. In addition, the Nations Cup tournaments for the three youth age groups in dressage have been held here since 2010.

The April / May tournament Horses & Dreams was broadcast live on television for the first time in 2009 and has been part of the Riders Tour since 2011 . In 2012, the tournament was upgraded to 4 * level in both dressage and jumping.

In addition to the regular tournaments, the European Dressage Championships were held at the Kasselmann farm in 2005 after Moscow withdrew from the originally planned venue.

After the number of visitors to the first Horses & Dreams totaled 20,000, the number rose to 68,500 by 2012.

In 2012, the main tests in show jumping and dressage were held as CSI 4 * and CDI 4 *, the second highest tournament category in these sports. In addition, a CSIYH 1 * for seven- and eight-year-old show jumpers and international amateur jumping competitions (CSIAm-A and CSIAm-B) were announced. In addition, national tests such as the professional equestrian championship for dressage riders were held.

In addition to Horses & Dreams, another major dressage tournament was held in July 2015 at the Kasselmann farm: Since the CHIO Aachen is not held due to the European Championships , the German Nations Cup of dressage riders was awarded to Hagen. The CDIO Hagen was advertised as CDIO 5 * and CDI 4 *.

The Horses & Dreams equestrian festival lasts five days, from Wednesday to Sunday. The program takes place in several places at the same time. Further warm-up tests will also follow on Thursday, for example the first test of the Grand Tour in show jumping. The tournament program will continue on Friday.

Saturday includes, among other things, the evaluation test of the young horse Grand Prix for 8 to 10 year old dressage horses, which has been held since 2008 . In addition to the qualifying test for the Grand Prix, a special test is held on the jumping arena. In 2009 and 2010 this was a KO jumping competition with a joker, since 2011 an elective jumping competition has been held.

The final day includes a Grand Prix Spécial and a Grand Prix Freestyle on the dressage arena , while the final of the professional equestrian championship takes place in the afternoon. In addition to show numbers, the program on the jumping arena includes, in particular, the show jumping competition.

media

After only reports from the tournament were shown on NDR television in previous years , the equestrian competitions were broadcast on television for the first time in 2008. In 2008 NDR television broadcast the Grand Prix live on Sunday, and the game and quiz show "The North German State Competition - in the saddle, get set, go!" With Cornelia Poletto , Horst Hrubesch , Till Demtrøder and Eva Habermann produces and broadcasts on NDR.

In 2009, NDR and WDR television broadcast the main jumping competitions live on Saturday and Sunday, and in 2010 the same was true for NDR. The Grand Prix of the 2011 tournament was to be broadcast by the First German Television , and Matthias Alexander Rath and Totilas' first appearance at the dressage competitions was also to be shown here. Since Totilas did not start due to an injury, the broadcast was canceled at short notice. According to the program managers, the sole transfer of the jumping competition would have been lost to the Formula 1 transfer taking place at the same time .

There was no TV broadcast in 2012 either. However, the NDR showed Grand Prix de Dressage and Grand Prix Freestyle on its website, in which Totilas competed in a tournament for the first time in eight months. In 2013 jumping competitions were broadcast on the NDR website on Saturday and Sunday.

From 2008 to 2010 the dressage tests were broadcast live on the internet by the title sponsor of the young horse Grand Prix at the time, CP Medien AG from Ludwigsburg . The German IPTV broadcaster ClipMyHorse has been broadcasting the show jumping and dressage tests of the tournament live on the Internet since 2011 .
