The Riders Tour has been a show jumping tournament series that has been held since 2001 , the venues of which are (with a few exceptions in the first few years) in Germany. The Beerbaum family has been very successful over the years and was the overall winner from 2001 to 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2017. The field of participants consists mainly of nationally and internationally successful show jumpers from the German-speaking area, supplemented by some internationally successful participants from other European countries. The tournaments are advertised as CSI 3 * or CSI 4 *.

Stages and sponsors

The title sponsor of the series has been BEMER Int. AG, accordingly the series is officially known as the BEMER-Riders Tour . BEMER was the main sponsor of the Riders Tour from 2016. Previous title sponsors included Gold-Zack AG , Liechtenstein bank LGT and, from 2010 to 2018, Deutsche Kreditbank .

With the loss of the previous title sponsor, the future of the tournament series was unclear after the 2018 season. The following season brought the biggest changes in the season calendar for over a decade: The Wiesbaden Whitsun tournament and the final stage at the Munich Indoors were eliminated from the series. There were two new tournaments in Northern Germany, which are organized by PST Paul Schockemöhle Marketing GmbH.

The Riders Tour thus includes tests at the following tournaments:

After its start in 2001, the Riders Tour was for a long time the most highly endowed tournament series in show jumping. In 2007 the overall victory of the series was endowed with € 250,000 (total prize money for individual evaluation: € 510,000). In 2008 it was decided to instead distribute (high-quality) material prizes as the prize for the winner and those placed in the overall ranking. In return, the prize money per special stage was increased to € 150,000. At the beginning of 2009 this amount fell to around € 100,000. After the television broadcast of the Riders Tour tests was postponed to the third programs from the tournament in Münster , there was a further reduction to € 80,000 with effect from the Paderborn stage. In 2015, the prize money for the special stages ranged from 75,000 euros (Paderborn) to 120,000 euros (Hamburg).

Rider of the year

So far, the following riders have won the title "Rider of the year":

The sporting regulations of the Riders Tour (as of 2016)

  • The best 3 riders of the Riders Tour final rankings of the previous year,
  • The top 5 of the current Riders Tour ranking list (the final result of the previous season counts for the first evaluation test) and
  • additional riders who receive start authorizations at the respective tournament.

In addition, up to a total of 50 participants, the best riders from the qualification test.
  • Test: The main test on Sunday counts as the special test of the Riders Tour. With the exception of the second stage, the German Jumping Derby , this is a competition with two rounds .

At the end of the Riders Tour season, the rider with the most points is the winner - the Rider of the year . From the 2016 season, a maximum of four results per rider will be included in the overall ranking. In order to include a rider in the final ranking, a start at the Munich Indoors - the last stage of the series - is mandatory. If there is a tie in the ranks when determining the “Rider of the Year” after the end of the last stage of the Riders Tour, the greater number of wins will decide. If there is still no decision here either, the larger number of second places is decisive, etc.

Team ranking (until 2006)

Until 2006, the team competition of the Riders Tour was held as part of the qualifying test for the Grand Prix on Saturday. For the team ranking, the results of the three riders of a team who were nominated for the team ranking of the Riders Tour counted. The nomination was made in advance of the tour and could not be changed afterwards. In the team evaluation, the error points and the total time of the three riders from the qualification were added up on Saturday afternoon. The placement was based on the penalty points. If several teams took first place with the same number of penalty points, a jump-off took place, which was carried out by one rider of the respective teams. At the end of the tour, the station with the worst ranking was deleted for each team. The winner of the team classification was the team that had the most points in the end. In the event of a tie, the number of wins decided.

The Riders Tour team ranking was won by the following teams:

  • 2002: Audi quattro Team
  • 2003: Audi quattro Team
  • 2004: Audi quattro Team
  • 2005: Moneymaxx Equestrian Team
  • 2006: Sprehe Feinkost Team

Riders Tour Dressage (2002)

In 2002, in addition to the Riders Tour in show jumping, a Riders Tour competition for dressage riders was held. Five venues were selected as the venues, at which the show jumping competitions were also held (Balve, Gera, Donaueschingen, Hanover, Munich). Ulla Salzgeber won the overall ranking ahead of Hubertus Schmidt and Heike Kemmer .
