The winner's tournament is an important equestrian tournament in Münster, Westphalia .

history

Since the first edition in 1955, it has been organized by the Westphalian Riding Club from 1835 , the oldest riding club in Germany. There are competitions in show jumping and dressage , for which a large number of different prizes are awarded.

In 1960, 1985, 1991, 1997, 2001, 2006 and 2010 the winners' tournament was the venue for the German championships in jumping and dressage . In 1972, the first four- in-hand world championship took place here .

In addition, the tournament has been part of the Riders Tour since 2003 - with interruptions in 2006 and 2010 . Due to scheduling difficulties, there were no competitions in dressage for the first time in 2005 after the organizer agreed to change dates with the CHIO in Aachen in order not to endanger the world's largest horse show.

The tournament

The tournament began in the 1930s, when the tournament was held entirely on the Westerholt'schen Wiese in Münster, between the Neuwerk and the promenade . After the war damage had been repaired, the first championship tournament was held in 1955 on the Westerholt'schen Wiese.

Later, the Schlossplatz was added as a venue where the show jumping competitions are held. For the time being, the dressage remained on the Westerholt'schen Wiese, the use of which for the show jumping competitions is still recognizable as an obstacle due to the moat.

In the 2000s, the dressage competitions were also moved to Schlossplatz.

In 2011 the tournament could only take place to a limited extent due to heavy rainfall. As a result, the course of the tournament area in front of the castle was completely renewed by the 2012 tournament.

Grand Prix

The most important test for the show jumping riders at the tournament of winners is the Grand Prix, which bears the name BMW Hakvoort Trophy after its sponsor . This stage is the special stage of the Riders Tour and takes place on Sunday afternoon. The grant in 2017 was € 125,000.
