Riders Tour 2011

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Riders Tour 2011 was the eleventh season of the Riders Tour , an internationally advertised show jumping tournament series .

In 2011, the Riders Tour extended over seven special stages at CSI 3 * and 4 * tournaments in Germany. The Riders Tour is organized by a company of the same name, whose managing director is Paul Schockemöhle .

The main sponsor of the series is Deutsche Kreditbank .

Course of the tournament series

The tests of the series took place in 2011 from May 8th to November 6th.

The special tests took place in the afternoon of the last day of the tournament. They were advertised as a jumping competition with two different rounds . As a special feature, however, the penalty points from the first round were not taken over, so the announcement (except for the starting order in the second round) is largely similar to a jumping competition with a winning round.

The 10 best starters from the first round reached the second round. If more than ten riders were fault-free in the first round, they were all eligible to start in the second round of the test.

A final was held at the end of the season. This was a normal special stage. However, if a rider was in first to sixth place in the overall ranking at the end of the season, he had to take part in the final. If this was not the case, he was not involved in the award of the overall ranking.

The points were awarded as follows:

space 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th 9 10 11 12 13 14th 15th
Points 20th 17th 15th 13 11 10 9 8th 7th 6th 5 4th 3 2 1

media

The tests of the Riders Tour were mostly broadcast by ARD , ZDF or third party programs to varying degrees. The basis for this is the contract between the German Equestrian Association and the sports rights agency of the public broadcasters.

Initially, the broadcast of the first special stage of the season was planned in a 55-minute broadcast on ARD. However, since the tournament premiere of Matthias Alexander Rath and Totilas , which was also planned for the dressage tests in Hagen am Teutoburg Forest , is canceled due to injury, the broadcast was canceled. The sole broadcast of the jumping competition would be lost in comparison to the Formula 1 broadcast taking place at the same time . The tournament will be broadcast live via an internet live stream.

The second evaluation test, the German Jumping Derby , was broadcast by ZDF for 75 minutes. The third test in Wiesbaden showed the Hessischer Rundfunk a 90 minute long transmission.

The test in Münster was not broadcast on television due to the European Versatility Championship taking place at the same time . As in Hagen, the tournament was broadcast live via an internet livestream. This makes the 2011 season the first Riders Tour season in which several special stages are not broadcast on television.

The stage in Paderborn was broadcast by WDR television for two hours. The final stage in Munich, however, is only summarized in the ZDF sports report .

This means that just over half of the stages of the 2011 season were broadcast extensively.

Speculation

On October 30th, an article by Werner Langmaack was published in the Welt am Sonntag , who prophesied an uncertain future and a possible sudden end to the Riders Tour. This report was denied a few days later:

" That has no basis and is definitely wrong "

- Paul Schockemöhle, managing director of Riders Tour GmbH

Shortly after the denial , it was announced that the expiring contract of the title sponsor (Deutsche Kreditbank) had been extended by two years.

The exams

The CSI 3 * tournament in Hagen am Teutoburg Forest, which marks the start of the 2011 season, is part of the Riders Tour for the first time. After a year break, the winner is the tournament that hosted the German championship in 2010 . This in turn takes place at the Balve Optimum , which was part of the Riders Tour last year.

1st examination: Hagen aTW

The first test of the DKB-Riders Tour took place at the CSI 3 * tournament " Horses & Dreams " (May 4th to May 8th 2011) in Hagen am Teutoburg Forest .

The special stage was held on May 8, 2011 at 2:45 p.m. local time and is endowed with € 80,000. The course builder for this test was Klaus-W. Holle and Olaf Herrmann.

Of the participants of the second round, ten riders according to the regulations, all remained clear of obstacles. One rider ( Andreas Kreuzer ), however, had a time penalty. In the second round, in which all riders started again without penalty points, four riders and their horses remained clear. These included Ludger Beerbaum and Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum , who had started the second special stage of the Global Champions Tour in Valencia the day before .

2nd exam: Hamburg

Andre Thieme with Nacorde am Wall

After it was the first evaluation test of the Riders Tour for years, the German Show Jumping and Dressage Derby taking place in Hamburg (June 1 to June 5, 2011) forms the framework for the second Riders Tour stage this year.

The German Jumping Derby, special stage of the Riders Tour, started on June 5th, 2011 at 2:05 p.m. The endowment was € 105,000. Frank Rothenberger was commissioned to set up the course designed by Eduard F. Pulvermann in 1920 . Unlike the other stations on the Riders Tour, this is a jumping competition with jump-off .

After 15 riders were clear in the first derby qualification and seven riders also finished the second qualification without any error points, the sporting director of the tournament, Paul Schockemöhle , decided to raise some obstacles on the derby course again. As a result, no rider remained faultless in the show jumping derby.

Seven riders recorded two obstacle drops on the course and thus came in third to eighth. Torben Köhlbrandt and Andre Thieme each had one throw and thus moved into the jump-off. Thieme had the better time to jump-off and won the German Jumping Derby for the third time after 2007 and 2008.

3rd exam: Wiesbaden

On the weekend of Pentecost, from June 10th to June 13th, 2011, the third Riders Tour evaluation test took place in Wiesbaden as part of the Wiesbaden International Whitsun tournament. The venue for the 75th tournament was the Biebrich Castle Park .

For the overall ranking of the Riders Tour, the Wiesbaden Grand Prix counted as a special test. This took place on June 13, 2011 at 3:20 pm and was endowed with prize money of € 75,000. The course designer was Christian Wiegand.

In the second round of the test, five out of ten riders failed to make mistakes. For Ludger Beerbaum , the victory in this test after a third place in the special test of the Global Champions Tour in Cannes two days earlier represented the end of a highly successful weekend.

4th exam: Münster

The fourth test of the DKB-Riders Tour took place at the tournament of the winners (25th August to 28th August 2011) in Münster .

The Grand Prix, special stage of the Riders Tour, took place on August 28, 2011 from 3:30 p.m. The course was designed by Eckhard Hilker. The prize money was € 80,000.

Saturday was marked by heavy rain. As a result, the ground could no longer withstand the rain, and the announcement for the qualifying test for the Grand Prix was subsequently changed from a jumping competition with jump-off to an error-time competition. Despite this simplification, 13 out of 44 participants did not take part in the test. As a result, the field in the Grand Prix shrank to 33 starters.

After the second round, six riders and their horses had completed the test without errors. The victory went to Katrin Eckermann with Carlson .

5th exam: Paderborn

The Schützenplatz in Paderborn is the venue for the E.ON Westfalen Weser Challenge (September 8 to September 11, 2011). This is where the fifth special stage of the tournament series will be held.

The Grand Prix of Paderborn, special stage of the Riders Tour, started on September 11th, 2011 at 1:45 p.m. The endowment was € 80,000, the main sponsor of the tournament and the grand prize was E.ON Westfalen Weser . The jumping course was set up by Christian Wiegand.

The second round, in which the ten best riders of the first round were allowed to start, seven riders with their horses finished without mistakes. The first three ranks were occupied by riders who are based at Ludger Beerbaum's facility in Riesenbeck.

6. Exam: Hanover

The first test of the Riders Tour in the indoor season traditionally takes place in Hanover . Here the Grand Prix at the German Classics (October 20 to October 23, 2011) was the sixth special stage of the Riders Tour. The endowment for the Grand Prize was € 70,000. The course was set up by Frank Rothenberger.

In the first round of the special stage, four riders failed to make mistakes, two others each had a time penalty. Marcus Ehning and Sabrina delivered the fastest ride in the second lap in a time of 36.11 seconds, but had an obstacle release. Overall, in the second round of the top ten pairs, five riders remained clear, the gap between their times is a little more than two seconds. The victory went to Jörg Oppermann, who achieved one of his greatest individual successes to date.

7. Exam: Munich

The 2011 Riders Tour ended at the Munich Indoors (November 4 to November 6, 2011) in the Munich Olympic Hall . The final test, the Grand Prix, took place on November 6th at 2:30 p.m.

The first round of the Grand Prix turned out to be very demanding for the participants. Overall, there were only two faultless rounds and one round with a time penalty. For the second round of the top ten, all but one of the riders qualified with four penalty points.

The fastest lap in the second lap was shown by the first participant, Marcus Ehning with Sabrina - but he had a pole drop. Katrin Eckermann was the last participant to enter the course, but had a throw off at the first obstacle and thus missed the chance to win the overall Riders Tour. The victory in the test went to John Whitaker with the stallion Peppermill .

Overall rating

The riders placed one to six after the end of the season received prizes. For this, however, participation in the final test in Munich was necessary, which is why Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum (with previously 28 evaluation points) was not included in the final bill.
