Luciana Diniz (born October 11, 1970 in São Paulo ) is a native Brazilian show jumper who competes for Portugal .

Private

Luciana Diniz is the daughter of the polo player Arnaldo Diniz and the former Brazilian dressage rider and eight-time Brazilian champion Lica Diniz . Two of her brothers (Andre and Fabio) are also polo players, a third (Arnaldo Filho) is a racing driver. Her cousin Pedro Diniz was active as a racing driver in Formula 1.

She was married to the German show jumper Andreas Knippling , from this marriage two sons were born. She lives in Sankt Augustin . Diniz operates a riding facility in Wachtberg - Niederbachem near Bonn.

Career

In sport, Luciana Diniz initially competed for Brazil. She started riding at the age of nine, and two years later she started show jumping. At the age of 18, she left São Paulo and moved to Belgium, where she was trained by Nelson Pessoa .

Diniz participated with her horse Graf Grande as a member of the Brazilian team at the World Championships in 1994 in The Hague and in 2004 with her horse Mariachi as a team member at the Olympic Games in Athens. The team reached ninth place.

In 1998 Luciana Diniz won the Licher Grand Prix at the CSI in Aachen with Dover . She was also runner-up at the Wiesbaden Grand Prix in 2005 with her horse Dover , after having finished third there with Meautry's Locarno (2004) and Dover (2003) in the previous two years .

For the World Equestrian Games in 2006 , she could not qualify as part of the Brazilian team. Following her grandfather's long-standing wish, she changed her nationality and has since started for Portugal. For Portugal she managed to qualify for the World Equestrian Games in 2006, where she came in 23rd place with Dover . Dover retired from the sport in 2009 at the age of 20.

From 2007 to 2015, Luciana Diniz took part in all European championships, including the 2012 Olympic Games .

Luciana Diniz was placed at the front in several 5-star Grand Prix in 2007. In addition, she was 5th in the Grand Prix of the World Cup in Stuttgart and won the time jumping of the European Championship. In 2008 she was already at the top of the Grand Prix of the World Cup tournaments (2nd in Bordeaux, 3rd in Amsterdam) and won the Paderborn Grand Prix . In 2010 she was fourth at the World Cup finals in Geneva. Due to a victory in the Wiesbaden Grand Prix and third places in the Paderborn and Munich Grand Prix, she won the overall ranking of the Riders Tour in 2012 . In early 2013, she won with Lennox the World Cup competition of Zurich , two years later she won with Fit For Fun in the Grand Prix of Basel .

Luciana Diniz has been successfully participating in many competitions on the Global Champions Tour for years . She finished the 2011 Global Champions Tour season in fifth place overall, in 2013 she was seventh overall and in 2014 ninth place. In the 2015 season she won the Global Champions Tour stages in Madrid, Vienna and Doha and also achieved good placements in other special stages, so that she finished first in the 2015 Global Champions Tour overall ranking.

She played her third Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro . In front of the audience in her native country, she came ninth in the individual ranking with Fit for Fun . In June 2018, Diniz won the Swiss Grand Prix in St. Gallen. A month later, like a year before, she was second in the Grand Prix of Aachen with Fit for Fun .

In November 2013, Luciana Diniz was in fourth place in the FEI's show jumping world rankings .
