history
Johan Karlström bought the Uddeholm and Risberg farms from assessor Anders Stake in 1672 and the neighboring Stjärn, Stjärntorp and Lid farms from Anna Uggla in 1686. The actual founder of Uddeholms is the manufacturer Bengt Gustaf Geijer the Elder. In 1720 he came into the sole possession of the Uddeholm and Risberg estates. He had already acquired a large part of the property through his deceased wife.
Gejier founded an ironworks and a hammer shop for simple steel bars on this land on the river between the lakes Hagforssjön and Radasjön . Local iron ore was smelted with charcoal there. The wrought iron was then produced in the melting furnace, whose bellows were driven by water power.
development
From these first beginnings, the large Uddeholm concern developed in the following two hundred years with its own merchant fleet, a large number of companies, huge estates and its own forests. In the 19th century around 40% of the area of Värmland belonged to the Uddeholm company.
Today , the large stainless steel production company Uddeholm Tooling AB is located in neighboring Hagfors and is a global market leader in the stainless steel sector as part of the Böhler-Uddeholm group.
building
The most imposing building in Uddeholm is the former factory director's building from the 19th century. This is now used by Uddeholm Tooling AB for representative banquets for customers and as a guest house. In the park-like garden on Radasjönn there is a chapel that was demolished at another location in southern Sweden and rebuilt in Uddeholm. Uddeholm has a small hotel.
