CSI Basel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The CSI Basel is an international horse show in Basel and, as a CSI 5 * tournament, one of the largest horse shows in Switzerland . It takes place in the middle of January in Basel's St. Jakobshalle .

development

After the organizers initially held regional tournaments and held the Swiss Show Jumping Championships in 2007 and 2008 , the planning of an international tournament was started. The first CSI Basel, initially as CSI 4 *, was held in 2010. Since the following year the tournament has been held as a CSI 5 *. The main sponsor of the event was the Swiss watch company H. Moser & Cie. Longines has been the event's title sponsor since 2014 .

After being upgraded to the CSI 5 * tournament, the tournament competed for a number of years with the upcoming CSI Zurich for the title of the “highest- endowed indoor grand prix in the world”, which it took over in 2012 with prize money of CHF 450,000 . In 2012 the total prize money of the tournament was 930,000 Swiss francs. Five years later, the grand prize totaled 330,000 Swiss francs.

After the organizers of the CSI Zurich announced that it would be held for the last time in 2018, the organizers of the CSI Basel applied to host a World Cup. For the first time in 2019, a stage of the Western European League was held in Basel. Since then, the tournament has included two main competitions, the Grand Prix, endowed with 200,000 francs, and the World Cup competition, with prize money of just over 200,000 francs. At the 2020 event, Steve Guerdat succeeded in winning both main tests with the same horse in one year.

program

In addition to the large jumping competitions of the CSI5 *, the tournament program also includes internationally advertised amateur jumping competitions (CSIAm-A and CSIAm-B). Various music formations appear in the supporting program, which is shown from Thursday to Saturday.

The main tests are the jumping competitions with jump-offs over maximum obstacle heights of 1.50 meters to 1.55 meters , which are held from Thursday to Saturday at the end of the day's program . On Friday evening riders and horses compete in the Grand Prix. The tournament concludes with World Cup jumping, a jumping competition with jump-off (until 2016: jumping competition with two rounds and jump-off , 2017 and 2018: jumping competition with two rounds ) over 1.60 meters.

A total of five jumping competitions are held each time except on Sunday, including, for example, the “Great Basler Hunting Jump ” ( time jumping test over 1.45 meters) and “Helvetia Equipen jumping”, a team jumping test for mixed teams of professional and amateur jumpers. Until 2013, six riders each qualified for the Masters League final at CSI Basel .

At the end of the tournament, the most successful rider in the CSI 5 * tournament will be determined.

media

Due to the dominant winter sports broadcasts on Swiss television on the tournament weekend, the organizer initially opted for an alternative form of broadcasting: The tournament has been broadcast by the German IPTV broadcaster ClipMyHorse since 2010 . The Grand Prize was first broadcast by SRF Zwei in 2013 .
