Harrie Smolders (born May 10, 1980 ) is a Dutch show jumper.

He lives in Lage-Mierde , Netherlands , but trains in Alex Verlooy's stable in Grobbendonk, Belgium . Smolders is in a relationship and has two sons.

Career

Smolders, who comes from an equestrian family, started riding at the age of eight. In his youth he rode successfully in dressage and eventing tests.

At the age of 18 he moved to Johan Heins ' stable , where he worked for four years. At that time he took part in two European championships for young riders. After he was still without a medal in 2000 (with Odessa 5th place with the team and 20th place in the individual), he won the bronze medal a year later as part of the Dutch team. In the individual ranking he came here in Liverpool in 14th place.

He has been riding for Alex Verlooy since 2002. He contested his first international championship in the rider age group in 2009 when he took part in the European championships with Walnut de Muze as part of the Dutch team (4th place with the team, 37th place in the individual ranking). The following year, Walnut de Muze competed at the 2010 World Equestrian Games . Here he came in 39th place in the individual and 15th with the team. In the same year he rode Emerald in Lanaken- Zangersheide at the world championships for six-year-old show jumpers, the stallion was vice world champion here.

Smolders achieved his biggest single success to date with Emerald in early 2016 , when he finished second at the World Cup finals in Gothenburg . Four years earlier he and the Ratina Z granddaughter Regina Z had achieved tenth place at the World Cup finals in 's-Hertogenbosch .

As part of the Global Champions Tour , he celebrated various successes in 2016 and 2017, including winning the stages in Rome in 2016 and Chantilly in 2017. At the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2017 , he won the individual silver medal with Don .

In September 2017 he was sixth in the show jumping world rankings.
