Overall result

The decision for the World Cup victory took place in the jump-off after Steve Guerdat and Rich Fellers were equal in first place after four laps in three partial tests. In the jump-off, Steve Guerdat showed a very fast lap with his gelding Nino des Buissonnets . Rich Fellers went into the jump-off as the second starter and was initially at the same time as Guerdat. With a very good turn, however, he was able to gain an advantage over the two of Guerdat and crossed the finish line with a 64-hundredth advantage.

Rich Fellers is the first US World Cup winner in 25 years (in 1987 the US American Katharine Burdsall won ).

Besides the sport

The event was overshadowed by the unexpected death of the German national dressage trainer Holger Schmezer . Despite their death, the German dressage riders decided to contest the World Cup finals, but wore a black armband on their tailcoats as a sign of mourning.

" " We decided to start because it would have been exactly what he wanted, but it was a difficult competition. " "

- Helen Langehanenberg on April 20, 2012

A minute's silence was observed before the award ceremony of the Grand Prix des Dressage.

media

In German-speaking countries, WDR television broadcast the last partial test of the show jumping World Cup final for more than two hours. Eurosport is expected to broadcast a recording of the show jumping finals in the Wednesday evening program on May 2, 2012; the dressage finals will be shown on the evening of May 9, 2012.
