Career

Kent Farrington with Willow at the CHI Geneva 2013

Farrington, who started riding when he was 8 years old, initially rode pony races before finding show jumping. He won gold with the team at the North American Young Rider Championships. In 1992 he won the National Pony Club Championships, in 1998 he won the Eisers / Pessoa National Equitation Medal and in 1999 the Washington International Equitation Medal .

In the same year he went to the stable of the show jumper Timothy Grubb , for whom he worked for two years. In 2001 he moved to Leslie Burr Howard's stable , shortly afterwards he won the Maxine Beard Award .

He has been self-employed with Kent Farrington LLC since 2002 . Its headquarters are in Greenwich, Connecticut , and there is also a facility in Wellington, Florida . His students include the show jumper Mavis Spencer, adopted daughter of the actress Alfre Woodard and the screenwriter Roderick Spencer .

In 2005 and 2006, his mare Madison was named Horse of the Year for the American Grand Prix Association. In 2006 he took part in the World Cup finals for the first time .

He started with Uceko in 2011 at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara (Mexico) . In July 2014 he narrowly missed victory with Voyeur in the Grand Prix of Aachen , as the fastest rider he finished second with four penalty points in the jump-off.

At the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, he and Gazelle were part of the US team that won the bronze medal here. In the following year he took part in the Olympic Games for the first time, won silver with the team and, as the best American, came fifth in the individual ranking.

He reached the peak of his career in 2017: After being in second place in the world rankings for two months in 2015 and 2016, Kent Farrington was world number one for the first time in May 2017. He held this position until April 2018. Due to a fall, he was unable to participate in tournament sports from February to May 2018. Since he was unable to get his mare Gazelle into championship form in time, he was removed from the shortlist for the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon. In July 2019 he won the Grand Prix of Aachen endowed with 1,000,000 euros for the first time .
