Course of the CSIO Barcelona 2013

The CSIO Barcelona is an international horse show that takes place every September on the grounds of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona in Barcelona . It is one of the largest and most famous horse shows in Spain .

The tournament

The tournament is held as part of the patronage festival in honor of La Mercè (the Madonna of the Protective Coat ), the patron saint of the city of Barcelona. The Nations Cup tournament is  advertised as CSIO 5 *, the highest tournament category in show jumping. It is one of the most traditional events in show jumping, the first time a tournament was held here in 1902.

At the end of the “green season”, the CSIO Barcelona has established itself as the final tournament of Nations Cup series. The Samsung Super League had its last stage here during its entire existence from 2003 to 2008, in which double the number of rating points was awarded. In the years 2009 to 2012, Barcelona was no longer part of the top league of the Nations Cup series, which was now called "(Meydan) FEI Nations Cup". Instead, the "Promotional League Final" was held at the CSIO Barcelona, in which the promoted to the FEI Nations Cup were determined. With the abolition of the top league for the 2013 season, the CSIO Barcelona became the final tournament of all Nations Cup leagues. In the course of this, the prize money was massively increased, from around 380,000 euros in 2012 to 2.1 million euros a year later. Of this, 1.5 million euros alone go to the Nations Cup final.
