René Tebbel (born February 12, 1969 ) is a show jumper . He has been racing for Ukraine since the beginning of 2015, previously he was for Germany.

Private

René Tebbel lives in Emsbüren , where he runs a tournament and trading stable. In 2012, Tebbel, who has been a stallion owner for a long time, set up his own stallion station on his farm. With this second pillar, he plans for the future and for a time after his active riding career.

His children are also active in show jumping: his son Maurice , who trains with him, was already highly successful in the pony and junior area and in 2017 was part of a German championship team for the first time in the "rider" age group. His daughter Justine also competed as a pony rider and junior at championships for Germany.

life and career

Tebbel was already successful in the jumping saddle in his youth: in 1986 he won the team bronze medal at the European Junior Championships, two years later he became Vice European Champion for Young Riders. In 1990 he successfully switched from youth sport with Urchin : He qualified for the World Cup finals in spring 1990 and was also nominated for the first World Equestrian Games . Here he was the team vice world champion at the age of 21. He was nominated again for a championship in 1993 when he was fourth with the team at the European Championships with Dexter .

In 1993 and 1994 René Tebbel rode for Paul Schockemöhle's stable , and has been self-employed since 1995.

In addition to third place in the 1999 World Cup finals, Radiator won many important tests in the following years, such as the World Cup competitions in Dortmund and Bologna (both 1998), the Stuttgart German Master (1998) and the London Olympics (1998) and Spruce Meadows (1999). With Radiator he also came second in the 2001 Aachen Grand Prix .

At the indoor equestrian tournament in Stuttgart in 1999, a check on the forelegs of Tebbel's horse Percy revealed hypersensitivity and signs of inflammation in the area of the coronet. Tebbel claimed to have used ointments containing capsaicin there on prescription from veterinarians . In December 1999 he was therefore banned from the FEI . The International Court of Justice overturned this judgment in August 2000: Tebbel was acquitted of every suspicion of tampering with his horse, and it was also criticized that the FEI's judgment was unfounded. Completely in contrast to the highest sports jurisdiction, the disciplinary commission of the German Equestrian Association sentenced Tebbel to a ban of eight months. This ban was only valid for national tournaments and therefore had no effect on the start in international competitions.

Tebbel broke a record in 2007 because he is the first show jumper to become German champion three times in a row . This year René Tebbel with Coupe de Coeur was nominated as reserve rider for the European Championships in Mannheim. Due to a colic of his stallion, however, he had to cancel shortly before the start of the tournament. Disappointed by his non-nomination for the team (" I can't be more than champion ... I don't agree with the nomination policy. My performance was not recognized. ") Tebbel considered a change of nationality.

After his successful horse Coupe de Coeur was sold before the Olympic Games in 2008, Tebbel was less to be seen in international tournament sport and concentrated on promoting young horses as well as his children. At the beginning of January 2011, Tebbel fell together with his horse at the international tournament in Neustadt (Dosse) . Here he hit the concrete border of the gang. Because of these injuries, he was only able to start tournaments again in the summer.

From September 2013 he took over the training of the Ukrainian show jumping team around Oleksandr Onishchenko . He is also still active as a show jumper himself.

From the beginning of 2015, Tebbel started working for Ukraine in addition to his coaching position. In the same year he and Cooper were part of the Ukrainian team at the European Championships in Aachen . In 2016 Tebbel took part in the Olympic Games for the first time. At the games in Rio de Janeiro he stayed with Zipper in four of five rounds without jumping faults and reached 19th place in the individual ranking. Despite the investigations into suspected corruption against Onishchenko, a Ukrainian team was formed at the 2017 European Championships , which also included Tebbel.
