He celebrated his first victory in a test in the advanced class at the age of 13, and he was awarded the Golden Riding Badge for ten victories in the advanced class at the age of 15. After graduating from secondary school in 2003, he went to the stables of Olympic champion Ludger Beerbaum as a rider , where he has been working ever since. After Marcus Ehning's horse Plot Blue could not start at the European Championships in 2011 , Weishaupt was nominated as a substitute rider.

Due to a successful sporting season, Weishaupt and Monte Bellini were nominated for the 2012 Olympic Games . However, a week before the start of the Games, Monte Bellini fell ill with a febrile infection. Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum replaced Weishaupt in the team.

The 2016 season started with victory in the Hagen Grand Prix, a few weeks later Philipp Weishaupt won the bronze medal with Convall at the German Championships in Balve. His outstanding single win in 2017 was the victory in the Grand Prix of Aachen .

In March 2019 he was ranked 27th in the world. Until the end of 2012, Weishaupt was part of the A-squad of German show jumpers. From January 2013 he was part of the B-squad, but was reassigned to the A-squad just in time for the 2017 European Championships. There he finished the individual ranking with Convall in 12th place.
