Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup 2013

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2013 Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup show jumping was the first season of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup . This followed the former Meydan FEI Nations Cup and was part of a tradition of Nations Cup tournaments in show jumping that has lasted for over a hundred years.

Procedure and regulations of the tournament series

The regulations of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup differed significantly from those of its predecessor series. There was no longer a global top league, but rather seven theoretical leagues distributed around the world: Europe 1, Europe 2, North and Central America, South America, the Middle East, Asia / Australasia and Africa. However, since there were no corresponding Nations Cup tournaments in Asia / Australasia, Africa and South America, only four leagues were played.

Evaluation points are awarded at each Nations Cup in the series. Points are awarded as follows:

space 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th 9 10 Further
Points 100 90 82 75 70 66 65 64 60 59 no points

At the beginning of the season, each national association had to select four Nations Cups in which their own team could collect points for participation in the finals. Further starts in other Nations Cups outside of their own league were possible, but no rating points could be collected.

At the end of the season, which ran from mid-February to the end of September 2013, a final tournament was held. As was the case last in 2003, the victory of the Nations Cup series was determined on the basis of a tournament. Eighteen teams qualified for the final: six from Europe 1, three from Europe 2, two from North and Central America, two from South America, two from the Middle East, two from Asia / Australasia and one team from Africa. If the host country of the final does not qualify, it may start as the 19th team.

Middle East League

The Middle East League of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup 2013 consisted of only one Nations Cup. This was held on February 21, 2013 at the President of UAE Show Jumping Cup , a CSIO 5 * in the oasis city of al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates. The Netherlands were victorious here. The teams from Saudi Arabia and Qatar qualified for the season finale.

This was the second Nations Cup show jumping tournament in the Emirates, the first was held in 2010 near Abu Dhabi.

2nd exam: Canada

The Canadian Nations Cup tournament is traditionally held in Spruce Meadows near Calgary . In 2013, the Nations Cup was not held at the Spruce Meadows Masters in September for scheduling reasons , instead it took place at the Continental from June 12 to 16, 2013. The Nations Cup was held on June 13th.

Since only one non-American team took part, Canada, the United States and Mexico each provided two teams. However, they could only collect points with a predetermined team.

European League 1

The Europa-Liga 1 ( Europe Division 1 ) is the successor league of the FEI Nations Cup 2012 . The league consisted of the eight previous tournaments of the FEI Nations Cup. The top six teams from the FEI Nations Cup 2012 (Germany, France, Ireland, Great Britain, Switzerland and the Netherlands) and the two promoted teams from the FEI Nations Cup Promotional Leagues 2012 (Ukraine and Spain) were assigned to this league.

At the beginning of the season, the teams had to decide in which four of the eight tests they wanted to collect points for the final. The decision was made based on the ranking in the last Nations Cup season, four teams can receive evaluation points per test.

1st test: France

The French team (in the picture Olivier Guillon and Lord de Theize ) came third in La Baule

Like the Samsung Super League and the subsequent FEI Nations Cup, the first season of the Europa League 1 began at the French Nations Cup tournament. This took place in 2013 in La Baule-Escoublac from May 16th to 19th.

In La Baule, the following teams receive points: France, Ireland, Great Britain and Switzerland.

2nd test: Italy

The Italian Nations Cup tournament took place from May 23 to 26, 2013 in the Piazza di Siena in Rome . The Nations Cup competition of the 81st CSIO Rome took place on May 24th at 3:15 pm. The decision to win was only made in the jump-off of the three best-placed teams: After the jump-off participants from Germany and France each received four penalty points for throwing an obstacle, the Ukrainian stalwart Cassio Rivetti received three time penalty points. The victory thus went to the Ukrainian team, which had competed in the European top national prize series for the first time in this test.

The following teams received points at the tournament in Rome: France, Great Britain, Ukraine and Spain.

3rd exam: Switzerland

The UK team wins the Nations Cup at CSIO St. Gallen 2013. From left to right: Laura Renwick , Joe Clee , team boss Rob Hoekstra , Guy Williams and Scott Brash

The third evaluation test of the Europa League 1 took place on May 31st in St. Gallen . The CSIO Switzerland , Switzerland 's Nations Cup tournament, was to take place in the Grundmoos stadium from May 30th to June 2nd, 2013.

As a result of the bad weather and the soaked ground - it rained continuously during the entire test and it had rained again and again for the entire previous week - the mode of the Nations Cup was changed. After the first handling, it was decided to forego the second and only carry out one jump-off with one rider each of the four teams placed equally after the first handling. The next morning it was decided to abandon the rest of the tournament completely.

Even before the test, Germany had decided not to start to protect the horses. However, since the German team was one of the teams that had specified St. Gallen as a qualifying tournament for the Nations Cup final, they were threatened with relegation to the Europa League 2. Two weeks after the tournament, the FEI Jumping Committee decided that Germany simply had no rating points the tournament in St. Gallen receives. Since the horse owners had not allowed the use of the German horses due to the ground conditions, the circumstances were rated as "force majeure".

The General Secretary of the German Equestrian Association , Soenke Lauterbach, welcomed the decision, “Such a decision is in accordance with our ethical principles and with the FEI's Code of Conduct for the Wellfare of the Horse. We must not be punished for that. "After the Nations Cup, Ludger Beerbaum said it was" shameful that the other nations did not comment on the soil conditions at the Nations Cup, because they were simply bad. "The decision in St. Gallen was based on many things, just not on horsemanship .

The following teams received evaluation points in St. Gallen: Germany, Ireland, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

final

General

The final tournament of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup 2013 was held in Barcelona on September 26-29, 2013 . The tournament, the CSIO Barcelona , was held on the grounds of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona and was advertised as CSIO 5 *.

The first test of the finals was a jumping competition after mistakes (one round). The best eight teams from this test were qualified for the final test, which was again advertised as a jumping competition after mistakes. The mistakes from the first exam were not included in the final exam. If there was a tie in first place, the final test would have been decided in a jump-off, in which three riders per team would have started.

A consolation test was held for the teams that did not qualify for the final exam at the final.

Teams

Egypt, which was invited as an African team for the final, decided not to start in Barcelona. The following teams will start at the final tournament:

Consolation test

The consolation test was endowed with € 300,000. The teams from Switzerland and the United States, who surprisingly missed qualifying for the final exam the day before, won the consolation test among themselves. Both teams had a score of four penalty points in circulation, so a jump-off was necessary. In this jump-off there were three riders per team, there was no cancellation result. The United States team won the test with two rides without any obstacle errors in the jump-off.
