William Whitaker (born July 26, 1989 in Huddersfield ) is a British show jumper .

Career

William Whitaker was already successful in sport in his youth: He became European Junior Champion in 2006 with Carneval Path . In December 2007, at the age of 18, he was the youngest rider ever to win the power jumping at the Olympia London International Horse Show . Shortly afterwards he won the World Cup in Mechelen, Belgium . At the British jumping derby in Hickstead , he finished third in 2008 and second in 2009. After finishing second here in 2015, he won this test for the first time in 2016. In addition to this victory, winning the World Cup in Stuttgart 2015 is one of his greatest individual successes. In 2014 William Whitaker was part of the British team with Fandango at the Nations Cup final in Barcelona .

Whitaker has already been voted "Show Jumper of the Year" twice. In July 2010 he was ranked 160th in the world.

After finishing school he was trained by Aaron Vale in the USA for some time , until the summer of 2010 he lived and trained in Nottingham on the farm of his uncle Michael. After a disagreement, he moved to Shaw Stud Farms near Telford . From the beginning of 2011 he worked on the family farm in Huddersfield. In the spring of 2016 he worked for a stable in Belgium. Already in September of the same year he changed again and worked at another Belgian stable as the successor to his compatriot Joe Clee .

Private

William Whitaker comes from one of the largest and most important equestrian families in the world and is the nephew of the famous show jumping riders John Whitaker and Michael Whitaker . William is the son of Ian Whitaker and his wife Alison. He is the cousin of the show jumping riders Robert Whitaker and Ellen Whitaker , who are also highly successful in the sport , as well as the big brother of George Whitaker, who also has his first successes in the jumping saddle.

Whitaker is in a relationship with the Swedish show jumper Elisabeth Fredlund, whom he met in 2009 during the Toscana Tour in Arezzo, Italy. On February 1, 2012, the two parents had a daughter, and their son was born on August 8, 2014.
