Telford is a planned town in the Telford and Wrekin administrative unit in the West Midlands with 162,300 inhabitants (as of 2009).

history

Telford was born on the drawing board and was built in the 1960s and 1970s. Existing locations such as Dawley, Oakengates, Wellington and Madeley were included. The name honors Thomas Telford , an early modern civil engineer involved in road and bridge construction.

The UK Championship , an important snooker tournament , was held at the Telford International Center from 2007 to 2010 .

In March 2017, an investigation by the Sunday Times revealed the Telford abuse scandal .

Infrastructure

Telford also includes Ironbridge Gorge , the Severn Valley near Ironbridge , a world heritage site . The River Severn in this valley is spanned by the Iron Bridge , built in 1779 - the world's first iron bridge.

Telford is connected to the UK motorway network by the M54 Motorway .

Cobra Seats , a manufacturer of car seats and motorsport accessories, has its headquarters on the outskirts .
