Philippe Le Jeune (born June 15, 1960 in Uccle / Ukkel ) is a Belgian show jumper and individual world champion 2010.

Career

Le Jeune was born in Uccle, a suburb of Brussels, in 1960. He gained his first riding experience at the age of seven when he first had riding lessons on a pony. Five years later he got his first horse and took part in national jumping competitions for the first time. At the age of 15, due to increasing success (including participation in the Brussels indoor tournament), he decided to pursue a career as a rider.

As a result, he was trained by the Belgian championship rider Eric Wauters , who died in 1999 , and during this time took part in the European championships of his age group in show jumping. At the age of 18 he moved to Maurice Olivier's stable. During this time he also contested his first Nations Cup for Belgium (at 22) . Further successes followed a year later, including victory in the Brussels Grand Prix with Mister Mundy owned by François Mathy senior. In 1983 he changed the stable again and went to Nelson Pessoa . That year he also won the Belgian championship for the first time. After 1986 he went to Switzerland for three years. During this time he came third at the World Cup finals in Gothenburg in 1988.

In 1992 he went back to Belgium. In the following three years Patrick Mc Entee (Belgian, since 2010 Azerbaijani show jumper) rode for Le Jeune. In 1996 he went back to Switzerland for three years. This year he won the La Baule jumping derby with Double-O-Seven . After two stops in Belgium, he moved to Lennik in 2000 , where he still lives with his family today.

His greatest championship successes, in addition to the individual world championship title in 2010, were third place with the team at the 2002 World Equestrian Games and eighth place in the individual ranking of the 2009 European Championships.

After the finals of the World Equestrian Games, he said the following about his relationship with horses:

“My father taught me that I should love animals. I love them more than people. I am happy when horses feel comfortable with me. "

In November 2011 he was ranked 62nd in the show jumping world rankings.

In summer 2012, Le Jeune was awarded the Leopold Order.

Philippe Le Jeune has two sons from his first marriage, Philippe Le Jeune junior and Thibault Le Jeune. Both sons have already participated in several international tournaments as show jumpers. The daughter of Le Jeune and his partner, the Italian show jumper Lucia Vizzini , was born in March 2015 .
