Pius Schwizer (born August 13, 1962 ) is a Swiss show jumper . He lives in Oensingen .

From February to June 2010, Pius Schwizer was the leader in the world rankings.

Private

Pius Schwizer has four siblings. His father was a farmer, cavalryman and founder of the Eich riding club .

After completing his school career, he trained as a butcher at his father's request. In this profession, however, he was only active for a short time, he preferred to turn his hobby into a profession and work as a professional rider. Since the early 2000s he has been working as an independent partner of the owner at the Klushof in Oensingen.

Schwizer has been married for the third time since November 2016. Schwizer has a grown daughter from his first marriage.

Career

Pius Schwizer and Picsou du Chene finished the first round in the Nations Cup in St. Gallen 2013 without any mistakes

Schwizer started riding at the age of four, and at the age of eight he started riding competitions for the first time. His father also sent him a year to train with a dressage rider in order to learn how to work with horses. Later he also learned from Markus Fuchs and Willi Melliger .

At the Swiss Show Jumping Championships in Ascona in 2006, he finished third with Unique X CH .

Pius Schwizer first took part in an international championship in 2007, the European Show Jumping Championships in Mannheim. Here he reached the 4th place in the team ranking in the 22nd place in the individual ranking with the horse Nobless M.

For the 2008 Olympic Games he was originally Nobless M provided. After Nobless M , who had already shown several problems with water hazards, refused twice at a water hazard at the CHIO Aachen , Schwizer's nomination was withdrawn. After Beat Mändli's horse ( Ideo du Thot ) was injured, Pius Schwizer and Nobless M moved back into Switzerland's Olympic squad for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Here they achieved 28th place in the individual ranking. In the team classification, the Swiss team subsequently received the bronze medal (more on this can be found in the article Olympic Summer Games 2008 / Riding ).

At the European Championships in 2009 he achieved the gold medal in the team classification and 35th place in the individual classification with Ulysse . Also in 2009 he won the Swiss championships with Ulysse .

He finished the 2009/2010 World Cup season with a second place in the World Cup finals (with Ulysse and Carlina ). With the same horses he reached sixth place at the 2011 World Cup finals and third place at the 2012 World Cup finals .

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, he starts with Carlina for Switzerland. The team reached fourth place with 16 fault points. At the 2014 World Equestrian Games , Schwizer was once again part of the Swiss team after finishing seventh at the World Cup finals in Lyon in the spring of that year . In the following years the horses available to him changed several times. His next big success was winning the Swiss Championship in 2017 - a success that he was able to repeat two years later.
