Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup 2015

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup 2015 for show jumpers is the third season of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup . This follows the previous Meydan FEI Nations Cup and is part of a tradition of Nations Cup tournaments in show jumping that has lasted for over a hundred years.

Procedure and regulations of the tournament series

Compared to the previous year, the basic rules of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup have been retained, but there have been a number of changes to the regulations. Seven (theoretical) leagues are distributed around the world: Europe 1, Europe 2, North and Central America, South America, Middle East, Asia / Australasia and Africa. However, since there are no corresponding Nations Cup tournaments in Asia / Australasia, Africa and South America, only four leagues are played.

Evaluation points are awarded at each Nations Cup in the series. The points system revised for the 2014 season will be used again:

space 1 2 3 4th 5 6th 7th 8th 9 10 Further
Points 100 90 80 70 60 55 50 45 40 35 no points

At the beginning of the season, each national association had to select four Nations Cups in which their own team could collect points for participation in the finals. Further starts in other Nations Cups outside of your own league are possible, but no rating points can be collected for these.

At the end of the season, which runs from the beginning of February to September 2015, a final tournament will be held. The venue for the final is Barcelona for the third time. Eighteen teams qualify for the final: seven from Europe 1, two from Europe 2, two from North and Central America, two from South America, two from the Middle East, two from Asia / Australasia and one team from Africa. If the host country does not qualify for the finals, it may start as the 19th team.

In the 2015 season, the effects of the sponsorship competition between Longines and Rolex, referred to in the media as the “war of watches”, became more apparent. After the German Nations Cup tournament, which is traditionally supported by Rolex as a sponsor, was eliminated from the Nations Cup series with the CHIO Aachen in 2014 , the competitive situation in 2015 also had an impact on the Nations Cup in North America. The two major tournament organizers on the continent in Spruce Meadows (Calgary, Canada) and Wellington (Florida, United States) kept their sponsor Rolex and were eliminated from the Nations Cup sponsored by Longines. The US Nations Cup tournament moved to nearby Ocala , where a series of tournaments that has been crowned with a US $ 1 million grand prize has been taking place for several years. In Canada, the tournament that counts for the Nations Cup series was supposed to change to Alberta, but the tournament did not take place here. The Canadian Nations Cup stage was therefore canceled for 2015.

Middle East League

The Middle East League of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup 2015 was again limited to just one Nations Cup. After two years in al-Ain, the Nations Cup returned to Abu Dhabi . The Nations Cup at the President of UAE Show Jumping Cup , a CSIO  5 * tournament, was held on Thursday, February 19, 2015. The team from Qatar won here, while the Ukraine team, which had won the previous year, came second in 2015. Qatar and Saudi Arabia qualified for the season finale.

North and Central America League

The tournament calendar of the North and Central American League (full name: North America, Central America and Caribbean League ) in 2015 differed significantly from that of the 2014 season. After the cancellation of the Canadian Nations Cup tournament, the league consisted of only two special stages. The US Nations Cup tournament was held for the first time in the self-proclaimed Horse Capital of the World , Ocala.

1st test: United States

Unlike in previous years, the Nations Cup tournament no longer took place as part of the Winter Equestrian Festival . The Ocala , also located in Florida, was selected as the new venue . The Nations Cup tournament, held from February 10th to 15th, 2015, took place in the fifth week of the Ocala Winter Circuit tournament series held here. The tournament was advertised as CSIO 4 *.

Overall ranking of the North and Central American League

After two special stages, the United States and Mexico qualified for the Nations Cup final. Canada, like Mexico, scored 170 points, but its best placement was a third place in the special stages. With a second place in Xalapa, Mexico had a better position and thus secured the final.

European League 1

As in the previous year, ten teams took part in the Europa-Liga 1 ( Europe Division 1 ). The teams qualified for this league based on the following rules:

  1. European teams that finished one to three in the Nations Cup final last year,
  2. the leading team of the final overall ranking of the Europa League 2 of the previous year,
  3. the second-placed team in the final overall ranking of the Europa League 2 of the previous year, if it was among the best eight teams in the 2014 Nations Cup final
  4. other teams from last year's Europa League 1 based on the overall ranking of the previous year

On the basis of the first qualification criterion, France, the Netherlands and Germany had qualified, and Italy also qualified as the best team in Europe League 2. Norway, second-placed team in Europe League 2 in 2014, did not start in the Nations Cup final of the previous year and did not move into the Europa League 1 either. This left six places open in the Europe League 1, which were filled with Sweden, Belgium, Great Britain, Spain, Switzerland and Ireland. This means that only Ukraine was relegated from European League 1 to European League 2 in 2015.

The eight tournaments remained unchanged compared to the previous year. At the beginning of the season, the teams had to decide in which four of the eight tests they wanted to collect points for the final. The decision was made on the basis of the ranking in the last Nations Cup season; five teams can receive evaluation points per test.

Eight teams are allowed to compete in each Nations Cup in Europa League 1 (if the host's team is not part of Europa League 1, nine teams). In principle, only eight teams reach the second round.

1st test: Belgium

For the second time the Belgian Nations Cup tournament in Lummen was part of the top European league. The tournament took place from April 29th to May 3rd, 2015, the Nations Cup was held on the afternoon of May 1st.

After the first round, France was in the lead with no penalty points, and Italy came in second with only two penalty points. While Italy only got four penalty points and thus won the test, the French team fell back to fourth place with 16 more penalty points.

The following teams received points in Lummen: Belgium, France, Ireland, Italy and Sweden.

2nd test: France

The French Nations Cup tournament was held in La Baule-Escoublac from May 14th to 17th, 2015. The Nations Cup took place on May 15th from 2 p.m.

After the British team was already in the lead after the first lap, they were able to maintain this lead in the second lap. The French team came in fourth place in the first round with nine penalty points, without penalty points in the second round they were able to work their way up to second place in the final result.

The following teams received points in La Baule: Belgium, France, Ireland, the Netherlands and Spain. Great Britain was therefore unable to derive any direct benefit from its victory for the overall standings.

7. Examination: United Kingdom

The seventh station led the Europa League 1 to the United Kingdom. From July 30th to August 2nd, 2015 the Royal International Horse Show was held in Hickstead .

After the first round, two teams, Switzerland and Belgium, were clear in first place in the Nations Cup. Both teams got four penalty points each on their team result in the second round. The United States also collected four penalty points in both rounds, so that a jump-off of these three teams was necessary. Without mistakes and faster than Janika Sprunger, Pieter Devos secured victory with his gray gelding Dylano Belgium.

With a placement again only in the middle of the field, Germany completed its fourth special evaluation test for the overall standings. Great Britain came one place behind in front of a home crowd, but the British could still collect points in Dublin.

8th test: Ireland

Less than a week before the start of the 2015 European Championships , the Dublin Horse Show was the last stage of European League 1. The Irish Nations Cup took place from August 5th to 9th, 2015 in Dublin .

In the first round of the Nations Cup, the Irish team took the lead without any faults, and the Netherlands followed in second place. Both teams managed to keep these positions until the end of the test. Switzerland came in third place, although only three of their riders crossed the finish line in both laps. While Great Britain lost ground and dropped from third to sixth place, the German team was able to work its way up from penultimate place to fourth place after the first round.

Overall ranking Europa League 1

For the final of the Nations Cup, the top seven teams from the Europa League 1 qualified in the overall standings. Spain is also qualified to host the Nations Cups final.

Belgium mastered the season best and came first in the overall standings with two wins, a second and a fourth place in its four decisive special stages. The season went even better for Great Britain, which celebrated three wins. However, since the first victory did not bring any rating points and the two other counting stages were only finished in sixth place, the British only finished third in the overall standings. Switzerland, always in the top half of the result in its four selected stages, finished the season in second place.

Ireland qualified for the Nations Cup final with a rising form curve that ended in a victory at the domestic Nations Cup in Dublin. With this victory they also overtook Germany, which was unable to collect any more points in Dublin and thus slipped to eighth place. In the final standings, Germany is tied with the Netherlands and Sweden, but lost out from all three teams in terms of the best stage results and thus missed out on the Nations Cup finals. Since Japan decided not to take part in the Nations Cup final, the German team slipped into the starting field of the Nations Cup final as a replacement.

Italy could not achieve any further top positions after a victory in the first special stage, Spain always only came in a midfield position in its four counting stages. Both teams therefore came in ninth and tenth in the overall ranking.

European League 2

In the Europa League 2, all European teams that did not belong to the Europa League 1 can collect points. Also in the season, the European League 2, identical to the European League 1, had eight special stages. Each team can collect rating points in up to four tournaments that they have previously determined.

1st test: Austria

The Austrian Nations Cup tournament, the Linz Horse Festival, was held from May 7th to 10th, 2015 in Linz- Ebelsberg . The Nations Cup of this CSIO 4 * tournament was held on May 8th from around 4 p.m.

The team of the Czech Republic won. Germany came in third place, and Luxembourg and Austria were also at the start with a team.

2nd test: Denmark

For the second time in a row, the Danish Nations Cup took place in Odense on the island of Funen. The CSIO 3 * tournament was held from May 14th to 17th, 2015. The Nations Cup, the second stage of Europa League 2, took place on May 15th from 4:00 p.m.

The Belgian team secured victory in Odense. The best team from the Europa League 2 can only be found in fifth place, which Norway achieved. There were 13 teams at the start, including Germany and Switzerland.

3rd test: Portugal

The third stage took the Europa League 2 to the Iberian Peninsula, from May 28 to 31, 2015 the CSIO 3 * tournament took place in Lisbon.

Only two of the nine teams that competed here were able to collect points. The victory went to Spain, Portugal secured 100 points with a second place for their team.

4th test: Poland

The Polish Nations Cup tournament was also held in Sopot in 2015, from June 4th to 7th, 2015. In contrast to previous years, the tournament has been significantly upgraded so that it is the only CSIO 5 * in the Europa League 2 alongside the tournament in Gijón. The prize money of the Nations' Cup tripled to 380,000 złoty , the prize money of the Grand Prize even quintupled compared to the previous year to over 660,000 złoty.

In the Nations Cup, which was held on June 5th from 2 p.m., the German team won ahead of France. Both teams had a result of five penalty points after two laps, and André Thieme and his gray gelding Conthendrix Germany secured victory with his gray gelding Conthendrix Germany with a clean round. The best teams from the Europa League 2 were Poland and Russia, both in fourth place in the final result. Austria was also at the start with a team, but failed to make it into the second round in 12th place.

5th test: Hungary

The CSIO 3 * in Budapest formed the framework for the Hungarian Nations Cup. The tournament was held from July 16-19, 2015.

In the Nations Cup, which took place on Friday (July 17th) from 2:30 p.m., Hungary, Italy and Denmark were tied with four penalty points in the lead after the first round. In the second round there were significantly more mistakes: while Hungary slipped to fifth with 16 penalty points, the Danish team secured victory with eight more penalty points. Austria came fourth with 18 penalty points.

6th test: Slovakia

The sixth stage of the Europa League 2 took place in the Slovak capital, Bratislava , from July 23 to 26, 2015. The tournament was advertised as CSIO 3 *. The Nations Cup in Bratislava was won by the French team, which was already clearly in the lead with seven penalty points after the first round. The Finnish team, trained by the French show jumper Hervé Godignon , came second as the best team from the European League 2.

7th test: Spain

The Spanish stage of the Europa League 2 took place in Gijón . The CSIO 5 * tournament was held from August 26th to 31st, 2015.

In the Nations Cup in Gijón, the teams from Europe League 1 dominated, the best team from Europe League 2 was Ukraine in seventh place. After the first round, France and Belgium were in the lead with no penalty points. While Belgium fell back with 12 penalty points in the second round, a total of four penalty points was enough for the French victory. Great Britain and Ireland succeeded as the only two teams in the second round without penalty points, both tied for second place in the final result.

8th test: San Marino

As in the previous year, the Nations Cup tournament in San Marino formed the end of the European League 2. The tournament, which was advertised as CSIO 3 *, was held from September 2 to 6, 2015 in Arezzo , Italy .

After both the first and the second round, France and Brazil were tied for first place in the Nations Cup, so a jump-off was necessary. The two riders in the jump-off both did not stay clear , with only four penalty points Marlon Módolo Zanotelli secured victory for Brazil with the gray Valetto . All other teams were clearly beaten back for a long time, so the Czech Republic secured third place with 29 penalty points (which earned them victory in the overall ranking of the Europa League 2), Germany came up with a young team (three of the four riders under 25 years of age) fourth place.

Overall ranking Europa League 2

For the Nations Cup final, the two best-placed teams from the Europa League 2 qualified. On the one hand, there was the Czech Republic, which in previous years had always been at the bottom of the Europa League 2 overall rankings, but in the 2015 season had won over several times with very good placements. The second team to qualify was Poland.

final

General

The Nations Cup final, which was held for the third time as part of the CSIO Barcelona , marked the end of the Nations Cup series . The tournament was held from September 24th to 27th on the grounds of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona and was advertised as CSIO 5 *.

The first test of the finals was a jumping competition after mistakes (one round). The best eight teams from this test were qualified for the final test , which was advertised as a jumping competition based on mistakes and time . The mistakes from the first exam were not included in the final exam. If there was a tie in first place, the final test would have been decided in a jump-off, in which three riders per team would have started.

A consolation test was held for the teams that did not qualify for the final exam at the final. Like the final test, this test was advertised as a jumping competition with a one-time jump-off, but in normal circulation time only played a role in relation to time penalties.

Teams

According to the Nations Cup regulations, 18 teams qualify for the final.

The following teams qualified from the leagues:

The following teams were named for the final tournament from the regions without Nations Cup leagues:

Due to Japan's renouncement, Germany moved up to the Nations Cup final. In addition to Qatar, there was no second team from the Middle East at the start, so Italy was allowed to start. Since the Spanish hosts were also eligible to participate, all ten nations of the Europa League 1 received a starting place.

Results

Qualification test

Belgium, which finished first in the overall ranking of the Europa League 1 and only showed weaknesses in the Nations Cup at the European Championships , confirmed its performance of the season in the qualifying test of the Nations Cup final: the team scored only five penalty points on a demanding course. Behind in second place came the German team (which competed with the same team as at the European Championships in Barcelona) and Sweden.

Consolation test

The Challenge Cup took place on Friday, September 25, 2015. This consolation test for the teams that had not qualified for the final exam in the qualification test was endowed with € 300,000.

In 2015 there was no jump-off to win. The Qatar team, which missed the final exam because of one penalty point more than Switzerland, clearly won the consolation exam. Behind them are five teams that came in second and fifth with 12 or 13 penalty points. Among them was runner-up world champion France, which, as in 2014, had missed the final exam.

Final exam (Nations Cup Final 2015)

The final exam of the Nations Cup Final 2015 took place on the evening of September 26, 2015. In line with the occasion, the course was extremely demanding: none of the first riders of the eight teams managed a faultless round. Of the second team riders, Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum and Judy-Ann Melchior managed to ride their horses without any mistakes. Since the first riders in Germany and Belgium each received only four penalty points, these two teams took the lead.

The third riders of each team was also not granted a zero-error ride. The fourth riders, on the other hand, provided plenty of tension: with Cian O'Connor, Beezie Madden, Gerco Schröder, Joe Clee and Gregory Wathelet, five of them managed to get to the finish line without penalty points. With Gregory Wathelet's result, the Belgian victory was certain after the German team fell far behind with eight penalty points due to two rides. Since, unlike in the consolation test, the required time was included in the result, they came in sixth behind the equipments of the United States and Ireland with equal points.
