Lars Nieberg (born July 24, 1963 in Wittingen ) is a successful German show jumper .

Early years

Nieberg began to ride on his parents' stables at the age of six. In 1980 he began his apprenticeship as a rider with Herbert Meyer , who later became the national trainer for German show jumpers . After a one-year stopover in Paul Schockemöhle's stable , he went to Achaz von Buchwaldt's stable in Hamburg , where he worked as a rider until 1990. As a result, he went to Hesse, mediated by Herbert Meyer, where he took up a rider job at the Wäldershausen stud . In April 1994 he also took over the management of the stud here.

Equestrian career

Nieberg's international career began in 1990. In the mid-1990s, he reached the top of the world. After he retired horses from the sport in 2005 and 2006, injuries to the remaining sport horses led to several setbacks in Nieberg's career.

After he was able to record more successes in tournaments again in 2009, the owner of the Wäldershausen stud announced in October 2009 that she would withdraw from equestrian sport. On April 1st, 2010 Lars Nieberg leased the Wäldershausen stud and reduced the number of horses from 70 to around 30 for economic reasons. Nieberg wanted to bring the stallion Giorgio , formerly ridden by Nieberg and leased to Hungary, back for breeding.

In January 2013 he was elected one of the deputies of the active spokesperson for the show jumping riders.

On March 1, 2013, Nieberg succeeded Kurt Gravemeier as head of Gut Berl. On Hendrik Snoek's estate , he looks after the breeding, rearing and training of young horses, and he also trains the riders on the estate. In return, the Wäldershausen stud farm was downsized, and Nieberg has been based in the Münsterland ever since. In the course of 2013, the Wäldershausen stud was then re-leased.

In 2018, Lars Nieberg retired from international tournament sport. For 50 Nations Prize participations he was awarded the FN Medal of Honor in gold with laurel in January 2019.
