CSI Spangenberg

The CSI Spangenberg is an international show jumping tournament ( CSI ) which was held for the first time in 1990 in Spangenberg in northern Hesse . In 1987 and 1989 there was already a national tournament in Spangenberg and in 2009 the tournament was held as a national tournament (CSN) because of the 700th anniversary of Spangenberg.

Equestrian facility

The CSI Spangenberg takes place on the equestrian facility of the Spangenberger Reit- und Fahrverein e. V. instead. This equestrian facility, located under the Schlossberg on the Esse, is equipped with a main square, some side squares and stables. A floodlight system for evening events is also available.

Over the years the CSI *** has become a fixture in equestrian sports. The prize money attracted successful riders. In 2007 the CSI *** did not take place. In 2008, Luciana Diniz then secured victory in the Spangenberg Grand Prix for the second time. In 2009 the CSI was not held due to the 700th anniversary of Spangenberg by the Spangenberg Tournament Society. Instead, a national tournament (CSN) with international participation and (as in 2008) an international tour for riders with amateur status was carried out by the local riding and driving club .

Since 2010 there has been another international horse show in Spangenberg, now advertised as a CSI **. As a result of the changed invitation to tender, the starting field has turned into a strong national starting field with individual foreign guests. In 2012 the tournament was held again as CSI ***, the prize money of the Grand Prize was more than twice as high as in the previous year (2011 € 35,000, 2012 € 80,000). This allocation was also retained in the following years, the total prize money of the tournament was over 180,000 euros in 2014.

In 2016 the tournament was canceled due to personal reasons of the organizer, one year later the CSI Spangenberg took place again.

The 29th edition of the tournament, originally planned for July 10 to 12, 2020, had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany .
