Baltic Horse Show

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baltic Horse Show was an international horse show that took place every year in October in the Sparkassen-Arena in Kiel until 2016 .

The tournament

The Baltic Horse Show was one of the largest horse shows in northern Germany. The tournament celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2014. The program included national and international jumping competitions , national dressage competitions up to the Grand Prix Freestyle as well as driving tests .

After an international CSI 3 * show jumping tournament was last held in 2003 , the jumping competitions were then advertised nationally for three years. In 2008 another international CSI 4 * tournament was held. From 2009 the vaulting tests, which were part of the show program in 2008, were announced internationally. In 2011 the tournament was held as CSI 3 *, CSIYH 1 * (young jumpers) and officially as CVI-W (vaulting world cup tournament).

The media partners of the tournament were the Kieler Nachrichten and the state program of the North German Broadcasting Corporation . The German IPTV broadcaster ClipMyHorse broadcast the tournament's exams live from 2010, and the TV broadcaster Sport1 has been broadcasting the tournament's main exams in its program since 2012 . Until 2011, NDR television mostly showed one test each Saturday and Sunday.

In June 2017 the organizer announced that the tournament will not take place in October as planned and that no further editions of the Baltic Horse Show are planned for the future. One of the reasons given for the cancellation was a planned new hotel building, which will make implementation even more difficult.

Program structure

Thursday was the first day of the tournament. In addition to several warm-up exams, the opening concert of the Baltic Horse Show was organized by the Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra in the Kiel Castle .

Friday was divided into two sections and lasted until around midnight. The main test of the day was the final test, the “Holsteiner Masters / Lotto 3plus 1 final”. It was the final of a national series of tests in Schleswig-Holstein.

The Saturday was also divided according to the program and often dragged on until after midnight, for example in 2007 with a knockout jump until 0:15. In 2010 and 2011, the late evening was reserved for the vaulting final test. The first part of the day, on the other hand, was dedicated to the young horses, the highlight being the “Holsteiner Masters Future Prize”, a € 10,000 show jumping competition with 6-year-old Holsteiner jumpers.

Sunday marked the end of the tournament. At the beginning of this day, dressage tests took place. In addition to a class L test, a Grand Prix Freestyle was announced for the first time in 2011, after there had been a dressage freestyle (audience award) as a show number since 2008. In the early afternoon, the Schleswig-Holstein Grand Prix, the main show jumping test, took place. In addition, the final of the “ driving duel” that took place over the course of the days as part of the show program was held here, a driving team test with two and four-in-hand drivers .

Besides the dressage world cup test in Neumünster , this was the only world cup test in equestrian sport in Schleswig-Holstein. The World Cup test consisted of two freedoms . Both exams are carried out separately by gender. The two winners will be determined from the average of the freestyle scores. Vaulting tests with the same structure were already carried out in 2009 and 2010.

In 2012, the vaulting tests were deleted from the program because, according to the organizers, the response was not great enough.
