use

Couples in pairs are used very often. With two horses, comparatively large, heavy wagons can be pulled compared to a single horse . The effort for a pair is in no way compared to a four-in-hand , for which five to six matching horses are needed if it is always to be ready for action. Two to three horses are sufficient for a pair.

Couples are the easiest tension to drive. The heavy four-in-hand lines are not required. A disobedience of one horse can usually be compensated for by the other horse.

Couples are also often used for horse training when running in. Normal warm-blooded animals can already be harnessed at the age of two because they do not have to carry any weight on the car. They are usually harnessed as hand horses in a pair of horses on the side facing away from traffic. On the traffic side, an experienced horse is harnessed as a saddle horse, on which the young horse can orient itself. A light, robust training wagon is suitable for running in, as the young horse should not pull hard.

Couples are also often used in driving.
