Career

Roger-Yves Bost with Pégase du Murier at the CHI Geneva 2013

Bost's father (Roger Senior) was already an equestrian. That is why Roger-Yves Bost was involved with horses from childhood. At the age of eight he took part in his first tests as a pony rider, and at the age of 12 he switched to large horses.

The mare Jorphée du Prieur became the successful horse of his youth . With her he was able to win his first individual title at the age of seventeen, at the European Championships for Young Riders he was European Champion in 1983. Further successes followed, such as the individual silver medal two years later, again at the European Young Rider Championships.

For the first time in 1989, Bost was able to qualify for the World Cup final. In the following year he just missed a top 3 placement, but in 1991 he achieved this success: With Norton de Rhuys he finished third in the World Cup final in Gothenburg.

In 1990 he was part of a French team at a championship, the World Equestrian Games in 1990, for the first time after completing his young rider days . Here he won the gold medal with the team, in 1994 and 1998 silver. In 1996 he finished fourth at the Olympic Games in Atlanta with the French team . He won the title at the French Championships in 1988 and 1997.

After the World Equestrian Games in 1998 it was eleven years before he was part of a championship team again. Bost celebrated his greatest individual success in 2013 when he won the European Championship in Herning with Myrtille Paulois . For the 2015 European Championships, however, he was only a reservist for the French team.

20 years after his first participation in the Olympics, he competed in the 2016 Olympic Games again in Rio de Janeiro . With Sydney Une Prince he was part of the French team that won the gold medal here, and he was the best French in the individual ranking.

Roger-Yves Bost (nickname "Bosty") is known for his idiosyncratic style in riding and overcoming obstacles. He is married and has two children. His daughter Clementine (* 1992) and his son Nicolas (* 1993) both compete in advanced level jumping classes.

In September 2013 he was sixth in the show jumping world rankings.
