Elizabeth "Beezie" Madden , born in Elizabeth Patton, (born November 20, 1963 in Milwaukee ) is an American show jumper .

Career

Beezie Madden's parents owned horses and she had her first pony at the age of six.

In 2002 she first took part in an international championship, the World Equestrian Games , for the United States. Since then, Madden has been part of the US team at almost every international championship, including several World Cup finals . Madden was the first rider to make it into the top three of the world rankings in 2004.

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens , she played a key role in ensuring that the US team won the gold medal.

At the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen she was one of the top favorites with Authentic and was flawless until the qualifying competition of the best 25 riders, which continued in the final of the best four riders with swapped horses. Only in the jump-off did she make a mistake on the last obstacle when she wanted to beat the time of the Belgian rider Jos Lansink . A year later she took first place at the CHIO Aachen 2007, the world equestrian festival, at the Rolex Grand Prix of Aachen.

At the 2008 Summer Olympics , she won the team gold medal with Authentic as part of the US team and the bronze medal in the individual standings. At the Pan American Games in 2011 she won team gold and narrowly missed the individual gold medal due to a time penalty in the last round.

In April 2013 Madden secured another great individual success when she and Simon won the World Cup finals in Gothenburg . Madden was able to repeat this success in 2018 with the gelding Simon .

The 2014 World Equestrian Games were just as successful as those eight years before: In Caen, she won the bronze medal in individual and team competitions with Cortes'C ' . At her fourth Olympic Games in 2016, she won the silver medal with the team. Beezie Madden also won bronze medals in both ratings at the 2019 Pan American Games .

In August 2015 she was in second place in the show jumping world rankings.

In 1998 she married John Madden, who is also her trainer. Both live in Cazenovia in New York State .
