Procedure and results

Grand Prix

The Grand Prix was held on Thursday afternoon (April 25th) . This was the warm-up test, but this was compulsory for all participants in the World Cup dressage.

Before the exam, Kristina Sprehe withdrew her start. Her horse Desperados was paralyzed on its right front leg during warm-up training. Several horses were frightened due to the lavish floral decorations on the edge of the dressage arena, which was still missing during training in the morning. The jury rejected a protest submitted by Patrick Kittel because the decoration was the same for all horses in the test.

3rd partial examination

The third partial test, a jumping competition with two different rounds, formed the end . This was not ridden against time, but a permitted time was provided.

In the first round of this test, which was held on Sunday afternoon, only the 25 best placed riders from the first two partial tests were allowed to take part. After a lot of riders had no mistakes in the second part of the test, course designer Uliano Vezzani created an extremely difficult first lap. As a result, there was no faultless ride in this first round, many riders had to accept eight or more penalty points.

In the second round, 17 riders start with their horses. In particular, the final jump led to errors with several riders, but two riders managed a fault-free ride.

Final score

At the end of the third test, the World Cup had not yet been decided, and a jump-off was necessary between the two best placed riders in the overall result. The Olympic champion couple , Steve Guerdat and Nino des Buissonnets started the jump-off . Guerdat tried to get a good time through tight turns, but misjudged himself on the final line and had to accept eight penalty points. Beezie Madden was able to take her play-off with Simon calmly, was over ten seconds slower than Guerdat. However, having no mistakes in the jump-off, Madden won the World Cup final for the first time in her career.

Gothenburg Trophy

Outside of the World Cup, a framework tournament was held. The highlight of this was the Göteborg Trophy on Saturday evening. This test was advertised as a jumping competition with a single jump-off with obstacles up to a height of 1.55 meters.

The German riders who were unlucky in the World Cup finals were all the more successful in the Göteborg Trophy: The victory went to Ludger Beerbaum, who could not qualify for the World Cup finals at all. Christian Ahlmann, who came to the bottom of the World Cup final for the second year in a row, achieved sixth place in the Göteborg Trophy with Taloubet Z. The luckless previous year's World Cup winners, Rich Fellers and Flexible , were also able to place in this test.
