Western European League 2012/2013 (dressage riding)

The Western European League of the FEI World Cup Dressage 2012/2013 (Reem Acra FEI World Cup ™ Dressage 2012-2013 Western European League) is the 28th season of the Western and Central European League of the FEI World Cup Dressage . The World Cup is the most important tournament series in the indoor season in the Western European League.

Course of the tournament series

The 2012/2013 season of the Western European Dressage League includes eight stations and thus one stage less than in the previous season. The stage at the Stuttgart German Masters has now been added as a special stage , the dressage freestyle at the Festhalle horse show in Frankfurt and at the Vlaanderens Kerstjumping in Mechelen no longer have World Cup status .

The tournaments in which the Western European League takes place are advertised as CDI . They are marked with the addition -W (i.e. CDI-W) in order to identify them as World Cup tournaments.

In the 2012/2013 season, the series covers the period from October 18 to March 17. The best nine riders of the Western European League and possibly additional participants ("extra competitors") qualify for the 2013 World Cup finals . The main sponsor of the Western European League and the World Cup finals is once again the fashion designer Reem Acra .

The World Cup tournaments each consist of two dressage tests : First, all riders must compete in a Grand Prix de Dressage . From this, the 15 best horse-rider pairs qualify for the Grand Prix Freestyle . This is the World Cup special test of the tournament.

The FEI broadcasts the World Cup competitions of the Western European League for a fee via its Internet portal FEI TV. Some of the exams are broadcast in the host country on television or via an internet stream.

The exams

1st test: Odense

As in previous years, the first World Cup of the Western European League took place in 2012 in Odense, Denmark. The tournament took place from October 18-21, 2012. The World Cup Freestyle was held on October 21st from 2:15 p.m. and formed the end of the tournament.

Adelinde Cornelissen and Parzival , the winning couple of the last two World Cup finals, dominated the freestyle in Odense. She won by over eight percent over her compatriot Edward Gal. The examination was endowed with 40,000 euros.

2nd test: Lyon

For the fourth time in a row, the Equitá Lyon was a world cup tournament in dressage and show jumping. This took place in 2012 from October 31 to November 4 at Eurexpo in Lyon .

The Grand Prix Freestyle took place on Friday (November 2nd) from 7.15pm. The winning couple here were again Adelinde Cornelissen and Parzival , who were able to trump their result from Odense. Three other horse-rider pairs also showed a performance that was assessed with a result of over 80 percent. The freestyle examination was endowed with 40,000 €.

3rd exam: Stuttgart

The Stuttgart German Masters , in which, in addition to world cup tests in show jumping and carriage driving, dressage tests at CDI 5 * level have been held for years, is part of the dressage world cup for the first time in 2012. The tournament, which will be held in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle , will take place from November 14th to 18th, 2012. The Grand Prix Freestyle took place on Saturday from 3:00 p.m.

Her first tournament appearance Since the Olympic Games, Helen Langehanenberg's Damon Hill NRW had in Stuttgart . Langehanenberg showed with her 12-year-old stallion a new freestyle for the first time in Stuttgart and thus convinced the judges: 86.775 percent, with one judge even awarding the B mark a value of 97 percent. Two other couples had a score over 80 percent. Prize money of € 40,000 was awarded in the examination.

4th test: Stockholm

The second Scandinavian stage of the Western European League took place from November 30th to December 2nd, 2012 as part of the Stockholm International Horse Show in Stockholm . The dominant rider was the Swede Tinne Vilhelmson Silfvén , who won both the Grand Prix de Dressage and the World Cup with Don Auriello . The pair was ranked first by four out of five judges. Kristina Sprehe with Desperados FRH was about two percent behind . Four couples achieved a result of over 80 percent in the freestyle.

5th exam: London

Just before Christmas, the Olympia London International Horse Show will take place in London from December 17th to 23rd, 2012 . In contrast to the other tournaments in the Western European League, the dressage world cup competitions take place here early in the week, from Monday to Tuesday (December 17th and 18th). The World Cup freestyle concluded the tournament Tuesday, it was played from 8 p.m. local time.

The Grand Prix de Dressage was already a sporting highlight: The Olympic champion couple , Charlotte Dujardin and Valegro , shone at their first tournament since the Olympic Games and clearly won with 84.447 percent. With this they set a new world record .

In the Grand Prix Freestyle, this pair also won a clear victory. In total, the five judges gave Dujardin and Valegro a rating of 10.0 eleven times . Isabell Werth with Don Johnson FRH , for whom this was the first World Cup start of this indoor season, came in second place . In their presumably last joint test, Carl Hester and Uthopia came third.

6. Exam: Amsterdam

In the new year, the Western European Dressage League was continued at the tournament in Amsterdam , called Jumping Amsterdam. The date for this was the period from January 18 to 20, 2013. The World Cup Freestyle was held on January 19, 2013 from 12:30 pm.

Last year's World Cup final winner, Adelinde Cornelissen, won the Grand Prix de Dressage on Friday at her “World Cup home game” by half a percent. In the World Cup test, the Grand Prix Freestyle, she only came second with Parzival with a result of 85.425 percent. Four of the five judges saw Helen Langehanenberg and Damon Hill NRW as the best couple in the test, which meant a lead of 0.6 percent in the final result. Don Johnson FRH , ridden by Isabell Werth, achieved his best score in an international test in the last two years , who finished third in this test.

7. Exam: Neumünster

The VR Classics in Neumünster are the seventh World Cup of the Western European League in the 2012/2013 season. The tournament was held from February 14th to 17th, 2013 in the Holstenhallen .

The dressage world cup test is held in Neumünster on Sunday mornings. The starting field consisted mainly of German starters and riders who are based in Germany. In total, five horse-rider pairs managed to achieve a result of over 80 percent in the freestyle. Fourth and fifth places went to Danish riders ( Anna Kasprzak with Donnperignon , Sidsel Johansen with Schianto ), the first three places went to German riders. As in the previous year, Helen Langehanenberg and Damon Hill NRW were victorious .

8th test: 's-Hertogenbosch

In the 2012/2013 season, the Indoor Brabant tournament in 's-Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands, marked the end of the Western European Dressage League. The tournament will take place from March 14th to 17th, 2013.

As expected, Adelinde Cornelissen and Parzival secured victory in the test that was held on Saturday afternoon . However, the victory was quite close, with a result of 85.100 percent, Edward Gal and Undercover achieved their best result so far at an international tournament.

Overall rating

The overall ranking determines which nine riders from the states in the Western European League qualify for the final. In addition, other riders from other countries can qualify for the World Cup finals via the Western European League, provided they live in the Central / Western European League.

The riders can also collect points in the Central European League and in the North American League of the Dressage World Cup (see “others” in the table below). As the previous season's World Cup winner, Adelinde Cornelissen is pre-qualified for the finals, so she cannot collect any points this season.
