For Pleasure (born January 14, 1986 , † February 18, 2011 in Borken ) was a Hanoverian stallion and a German world-class jumping horse.

Today's front runners Marcus Ehning and Lars Nieberg started their international careers with the stallion . The total lifetime winnings For Pleasures is more than 1.83 million euros.

For pleasure in sport

At the age of four the stallion came under the saddle of Hans-Joachim Giebel. Under the gable he won the Hamburg Show Jumping Championships and was the winner of model jumping for stallions at the Equitana . In 1991 he started at the Bundeschampionat in Verden and was two-time Lower Saxony champion.

Some time later For Pleasure moved to Lars Nieberg's stable in Homberg . His rider achieved his international breakthrough with the stallion. In 1995 the couple won the German Championships, shortly afterwards For Pleasure in Aachen was voted Horse of the Year . In 1996 they finished fourth at the German Championships and were nominated for the Olympic Games in Atlanta . There they won team gold and returned in the individual with 20th place. A year later they won the silver medal at the German Championships and were nominated for the European Championships in Mannheim, from which they returned with team gold. In the singles, the couple made it to fourth place. In 1998 the two were nominated for the World Cup in Rome .

Since Nieberg decided after a dispute with Robert Diestel to ride his second horse Esprit FRH, Diestel separated the couple Nieberg / For Pleasure.

A few months later, For Pleasure came to the stable of the then 24-year-old young rider, Marcus Ehning, via national trainer Herbert Meyer . In January 1999, just one month after For Pleasures moved in, the two of them started together at a tournament for the first time and were able to convince the audience with two clear rounds. In the same year they jumped to 6th place in the German championships and were seventh in the Aachen Grand Prix. In the Nations Cup of the CHIO Aachen they took second place and won the Grand Prix and the Nations Cup in Modena as well as the Nations Cup in Calgary and the German Master in Stuttgart . At the European Championships in Hickstead they won team gold and, with fifth place in the individual, they became the best German couple.

In 2000 they won the silver medal at the German championship, jumped to first place at the European Prize in Aachen and also won the Nörten-Hardenberg championship . They also came second in the Aachen Nations Cup and the Donaueschingen Grand Prix . At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , they won team gold and finished fourth in the individual ranking.

2001 was the year of problems, after a bad start the two were able to find their form again in the green season, won the Nations Cup in St. Gallen and came third in the Nations Cup in Rotterdam . Due to an injury to For Pleasures at the Nations Cup in Aachen, Ehning had to withdraw the stallion from the start, so the dreams of a start at the European Championship were broken.

In January 2002, For Pleasures owner Robert Diestel died. A dispute in court is still raging about his legacy, including For Pleasure, which was worth around five million euros at the time. The year started with success for the couple, but only two weeks before the German championship in Mannheim For Pleasure and Marcus Ehning had a hard crash at a tournament in Hickstead . Despite the fall, the two won the title in Mannheim and were thus nominated for the world championships, where they finished fourth with the team. At the German Masters in Stuttgart and the Grand Prix of Munich , the couple won against strong competition.

In 2003 the two were nominated for the European Championship because of their second place in the Grand Prix of Aachen. The couple returned with team gold and individual bronze. That same year, For Pleasure by the prestigious was World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses for successful jumping horse in the world voted.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , Ehning wanted to say goodbye to the stallion, but two weeks before the start of the Games For Pleasure was injured and could not start.

In 2005, at the age of 19, he returned to top sport and should be adopted at the European Championship. But at the Arezzo Grand Prix , a few weeks before the championship, For Pleasure injured his flexor tendon, the ultimate end of the career of the exceptional stallion. On May 21, 2006, For Pleasure was retired from sport at the CHIO Aachen .

With a lifetime winnings of over 1.83 million euros, the stallion went down in history and is still considered the best jumping stallion in the world.

For Pleasure died on February 18, 2011 at the age of 25 in a paddock belonging to the Ehning family.

For Pleasure as a sire

In November 1988 For Pleasure was licensed in Oldenburg. In 1989 the dark chestnut completed his stallion performance test in Medingen . He won the jumping sub-index with 145.95 points, but due to his poor rideability rating, he was only 15th out of 68 stallions with an overall index of 114.87 points.

In 2000 he was named Hanoverian Stallion of the Year at the Verden stallion licensing . 19 approved stallions and 78 mares registered breeding (including 15 state premium mares) have For Pleasure to the Father, the FN - genetic evaluation shows him with 153 points as a top producer.

He has numerous offspring in national and international sport, which often have a "For" in their name to indicate their parentage. Sons and daughters of the stallion known in sport include For Germany (Marcus Ehning), For Fun (Marcus Ehning), For Joy ( Jessica Kürten ), For Keeps (Lars Nieberg), Firth of Clyde ( Christian Ahlmann ), Forsyth ( Toni Hassmann ), Farina ( René Tebbel ), For Feeling (Ralf and Jessica Litz) and For Future ( Johannes Ehning ). So far (as of 2009) his offspring have earned over one million euros in sports.
