Masters League (equestrian sport)
The Masters League is a show jumping tournament series that is mainly held in Germany . It has been carried out since 2006.
The series is organized by Escon Marketing GmbH.
development
This series was created in 2006 as a competition series for the Riders Tour . Until 2011, the finals of the tournament series were held in the Festhalle horse show in Frankfurt am Main. There was no final in 2012, the final of the season was postponed to March 2013, where it was held at the Westfalenhallen horse show in Dortmund.
Special stages
The concept of the tournament series consists of several special stages and a final. In the qualification tournaments, the best two riders from the main Saturday test and the best four riders from the respective Grand Prix qualify for the final. At the final tournament itself, a test on Saturday counts as qualification for four riders for the final. Due to the double qualifications of individual riders, this leads to a starting field of around 30 to 40 riders in the final.
In the first year of the Masters League this consisted of six CSI 3 * tournaments in Germany, most of which were organized by the series organizer Escon Marketing . In the meantime, individual tournaments are no longer part of the series, others - also from neighboring countries - have been added.
The Masters League 2012/2013 thus consisted of ten qualifying tournaments including the tournaments in Basel and Wiesbaden. The last two mentioned represent a specialty, because in these CSI 5 * tournaments riders could qualify for the final tournament, which was "only" a CSI 3 * (until 2011 a CSI 4 *). Another special feature in Wiesbaden until 2018 was that the prize awarded by the state capital Wiesbaden counts as a valuation test for both the Masters League and the Riders Tour.
The evaluation tests take place at international tournaments, mostly at CSI 2 * to CSI 4 * level, as well as at a national tournament.

final
The final is formed by the Grand Prix of the final tournament. Since the 2012/2013 season this has been the “Grand Prize of the Federal Republic” at the Westfalenhallen horse show in Dortmund. This was endowed with € 70,000 in 2013. The test was advertised as a jumping competition with jump-off, the obstacle height was up to 1.55 meters. Four years later, the prize money for the test, in particular through material prizes (motor vehicles), was increased to € 120,000; the obstacle height was only up to 1.60 meters.
In 2010, the Masters League final was the third highest endowed jumping competition in Germany with prize money of € 250,000 including material prizes.
