André Thieme (born April 25, 1975 ) is a German show jumper from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

Career

André Thieme grew up as the son of the chief saddle master of the Redefin state stud and dressage rider and trainer Michael Thieme in Redefin. At the age of 19 he was awarded the Golden Riding Badge for ten victories in difficult dressage tests. As a result, he concentrated on show jumping and also achieved the golden riding badge here.

Thieme lives with his wife and children (one son and one daughter) in Plau am See . Thiemes horses have been in Leizen near Röbel / Müritz since April 2012 . He started working for the RV German Horse Pellets eV at the beginning of 2012, before that he was a member of the RV Alten Landsitz Sommerstorf, the SV Brauerei Lübz and the Equestrian Sport Club.

Thieme is a professional rider and has passed the horse management exam. In 2007 he was runner-up at the German Professional Equestrian Championships and was also part of German Nations Cup teams on several occasions . In 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 he was the most successful show jumper in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Thieme celebrated his greatest financial success by winning the US $ 1,000,000 Grand Prix in Saugerties (New York, USA) in September 2011. For this national test, which he finished ninth the year before, he had a Spring qualified at national tournaments in Florida. Because of this victory, Aragon Rouet was the third most profitable jumper by a German rider in 2011, with an annual winnings of € 271,269. In March 2014, Thieme achieved a similar success: with Contanga he won the final Grand Prix of the tournament series in Ocala (Florida), the was first endowed with US $ 1 million.

From March 2013, Thieme was part of the B2 squad of German show jumpers. After several Nations Cup appearances, he was temporarily accepted into the championship squad for the first time in August 2014. The sale of the mare Contanga after his good placement in the Grand Prix of Aachen meant a turning point in Thiemes' most successful phase of his career so far. Nevertheless, Thieme and Conthendrix were among the squad of German Nations Cup teams several times between 2015 and 2017. In 2019 he was only a substitute rider at Nations Cups twice, but won the Falsterbo Derby and received a starting place at the CHIO Aachen (there, among other things, 9th place in the European Prize).

The German jumping derby

Thieme became known nationwide in 2007 when he and Nacorde won the 78th  German Jumping Derby in Hamburg - Klein Flottbek . After Holger Wulschner's victory in 2000, he was the second winner of the German Jumping Derby from the "new federal states". This year two more riders from Mecklenburg-West Pomerania led the list of winners of the German Jumping Derby behind Thieme .

A year earlier he finished second in the German Jumping Derby, which, however, received little media attention due to Toni Haßmann's third derby victory in a row . In 2008 he was able to repeat his derby victory. In the German Jumping Derby 2009 he was therefore again traded as a favorite. Up to the Buschoxer (obstacle number 11) he remained clear, but then had a throw with Nacorde on this obstacle, the difficulty of which was increased this year (depth increased from 170 cm to 190 cm). Nevertheless, thanks to the fastest time of the riders, he achieved third place with four penalty points behind two other riders from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ( Thomas Kleis and Matthias Granzow ). In 2011 he was able to repeat the success of 2007 and 2008 with Nacorde .
