Cor de la Bryère , nickname "Corde" , (born April 23, 1968 in France , † April 27, 2000 in Germany ) was a dark bay stallion of the Selle Français breed , who is one of the most influential sires of modern warmblood breeding and is often considered to be Stallion of the century is called.

France

Cor de la Bryère was born in France in 1968 . His father was the thoroughbred Rantzau , who produced many good show jumpers in France. His mother was Quenotte B , a Lurioso daughter who went back to the thoroughbred Furioso . Both Rantzau and Furioso descend from Dark Ronald , Rantzau even in the paternal line. Despite his fantastic pedigree, the French commission suggested laying the stallion . Then its owner Xavier Ribard decided to sell it.

Breeding career

Since the Holsteiner Association noticed in the early 1970s how well French blood was doing in Oldenburg breeding (which the Furioso sons Furioso II and Futuro use), they wanted to introduce this for their own breed as well. The Oldenburg breeder Alwin Schockemöhle , who had leased the Furioso son Urioso , was ready to sub- lease the stallion to the Holstein Association.

An inspection committee then traveled to France to inspect the stallion and came across the 3-year-old Cor de la Bryére . The association bought it and imported it to Schleswig-Holstein . In the same year, 1971, he won the 100-day test and shortly afterwards started a triumphal procession through Holstein like hardly any other sire before and after him, his blood flows in more than 70% of all Holsteiner pedigrees. Cor de la Bryère was particularly successful with the mares Table (5 licensed sons, including Calypso I and Calypso II ), Furgund (18 times covered by him, 6 licensed sons) and Deka ( Caletto I , Caletto II , Caletto III ), the all also descended from Dark Ronald.

In his first season he covered 70 mares, four of his foals from this year were licensed. Breeders described the stallion as a "gift from heaven". He is particularly successful as a show jumping horse maker. In addition to his jumping technique, he mainly passes on his willingness and ability to train.

His descendants gained international influence. With the stallions Caletto I , Caletto II , Caletto III , as well as Calypso I to V , he created significant brother dynasties that have proven themselves both in breeding and in sport.

From 1971 to 1984 Cor de la Bryére was stationed in Siethwende, in 1985 he was at the Zangersheide stud in Belgium , from 1986 to 1988 in Elmshorn and from 1989 until his death in 2000 in Sollwittfeld.

In 1998 Cor de la Bryére celebrated its 30th birthday. In his honor, sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from all over Europe traveled to Elmshorn . On April 27, 2000, Cor de la Bryére was euthanized at the age of 32 due to acute heart disease.
