Cornet Obolensky (* 1999 ) is a Belgian gray stallion who was ridden by the German show jumper Marco Kutscher .

Cornet Obolensky's father Clinton was one of the world's most successful jumping stallions under Dirk Demeersman .

Sports career

At the age of four the stallion was trained by Marco Kutscher, where he stayed until the end of his career. The greatest successes of Kutscher and Cornet Obolensky include third place at the 2008 German Championship and the team gold medal at the 2011 European Championship .

Both also won, for example, the World Cup competition in Zurich in 2012. As part of the German team, they had a share in the victories in the Samsung Super League final in Barcelona in 2008 and in the Nations Cups in Rotterdam in 2008, 2011 and 2012 and Rome in 2012 .

In 2012, Cornet Obolensky was the show jumping horse ridden by a German rider with the highest annual winnings, which amounted to 339,842 euros. At the end of 2012, Cornet Obolensky's total winnings were 799,952 euros.

The couple gained inglorious notoriety beyond show jumping at the 2008 Olympic Games . After the first round of the team competition, Cornet Obolensky was administered arnica and lactanase by a nurse . Cornet Obolensky then suffered a brief attack of weakness, but was used the following day in the second round of the Nations Cup. However, the administered funds were not registered with the responsible tournament veterinarian. This became public through media reports and testimony only after the Olympic Games; a doping sample was not taken during the competition.

Cornet Obolensky made his last appearance in international sport at the 1,000,000 Euro Grand Prix of Rio de Janeiro in early October 2012. Towards the end of his sports career, he was already regularly playing against his sons and daughters, for example in Rio de Janeiro against Cornet d'Amour (under Daniel Deußer ). Now he is used exclusively as a breeding stallion.

Breeding career

Cornet Obolensky was bred by Thierry Degraeve. He was originally called Windows van het Costersveld (in the Belgian Warmblood breed, the names of the horses of a year start with the same letter, in 1999 this was the W ).

In 2001, Cornet Obolensky was licensed under a new name in Münster-Handorf . In 2010, at the age of eleven, the stallion had around 50 licensed sons as well as several state premium mares as daughters. At the end of 2011, the total lifetime winnings of his offspring in sport was 469,057 euros.
