Cham was a retired school principal and was only actively involved in politics shortly before the 2002 elections.

In the parliamentary elections in 2002 , Cham ran as a candidate for the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) in the Kombo North constituency. Because there was no opposing candidate, he was able to win the constituency for himself.

Cham died after a brief illness in February 2002 in the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul and was buried in the Sukuta central cemetery in Sukuta . When the new members of the National Assembly were sworn in on January 30, 2002, he was absent and was already in the hospital.
