Herbert Blöcker (born January 1, 1943 in Fiefharrie ; † February 15, 2014 in Elmshorn ) was a German eventing rider who won three Olympic medals in three Olympic starts.

Career

Herbert Blöcker from the Elmshorn Riding and Driving Club was second in the German championship in 1971 behind Harry Klugmann . In 1973 at the European Championships in Kiev, Blöcker took second place in the individual ranking and won the team ranking with the German team. At the 1974 World Cup he won the bronze medal on Albrant together with Martin Plewa , Horst Karsten and Kurt Mergler . As German champion from 1974 and 1975, Blöcker was also a member of the team that won the bronze medal at the 1975 European championship. In his first Olympic participation in 1976 in Montreal , Blöcker rode with Albrant to 13th place in the individual ranking. Together with Karl Schultz , Helmut Rethemeier and Otto Ammermann , Blöcker received the silver medal behind the team from the United States. In 1978, Blöcker and Albrant competed together again and together with Otto Ammermann, Harry Klugmann and Helmut Rethemeier won the silver medal at the world championship.

The boycott prevented its start at the 1980 Olympic Games . At the alternative festival in Fontainebleau , Blöcker was an individual rider and came in 27th with Contrast . In 1982 Blöcker rode Ladad at the world championship and won the silver medal in the team championship with Helmut Rethemeier, Dietmar Hogrefe and Rüdiger Schwarz .

At the end of the 1980s, Blöcker had a horse with the chestnut mare Feine Dame, born in 1976 , with which he was to become even more successful than with Albrant in the 1970s. At the Olympic Games in 1988 he was only a substitute rider. From 1989 to 1991, Blöcker and Feine Dame took second place three times in the German championship. At the 1990 World Cup he won the bronze medal together with Edith legs , Marina Loheit and Matthias Baumann . In 1992 in Barcelona , Bloecker and Feine Dame competed in Bloecker's second Olympic start. The two won the silver medal behind the Australian Matthew Ryan in the individual standings . In the team competition, Australia won ahead of New Zealand, together with Matthias Baumann, Ralf Ehrenbrink and Cord Mysegaes , Blöcker won the bronze medal. After the Olympic Games in 1992, Feine Dame ended her career.

For this he received the silver bay leaf on June 23, 1993.

Blöcker started in Atlanta in 1996 on Kiwi Dream in the individual competition and finished in 16th place. In 1997, Blöcker again achieved second place in the German championship.

In 1969, Blöcker started out as a sales rider for the Holsteiner Horse Breeders Association. He was employed here until 2006 and was responsible for free jumping for many years at the licensing of the association . Until 2012 he worked for the Holsteiner Verband as trainer of the station tests for mare tests.

In 2008 Herbert Blöcker was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the international association of eventing riders together with Feine Dame . He died of cancer in February 2014.
