Marina Köhncke , née Loheit , (born March 8, 1968 in Hamburg - Wandsbek ) is a German eventing rider.

Career

Köhncke was born as the daughter of a grocery wholesaler and grew up in Radbruch . At the age of nine, she received her first pony from her parents. At the age of eleven she competed in her first tournament with this pony, three years later she took part in an eventing for the first time .

In 1985, already on large horses, she took part in a championship, the European Junior Championships, for the first time. This year she had already become regional champion Hanover / Bremen. In 1989 she became the European Young Rider Champion with the German team.

After the young rider age group, she continued her career successfully: with the Sundance Kid , she won the bronze medal at the World Equestrian Games in Stockholm in 1990 as part of the German team. In addition, she was the best German participant in the individual ranking. Also with Sundance Kid , she became the second woman after Simone Richter in 1993 to become German eventing champion. A year earlier she had finished third in the German championship. In 1993 she was also part of the German team at the European Championships in Achselschwang with Arapaima .

From 1996 Marina Loheit was based at the DOKR facility in Warendorf. At the World Equestrian Games in 1998 she did not finish the test with Longchamps ; as her teammate Bettina Overesch did not finish the test either, the German team was not rated.

She had already moved to Badendorf a few months earlier with her husband, whose surname Köhncke she took on when she married . At the German championships in 1998 she was second. This was followed by participation in the European Championships in 1999. With the team, she was fourth at the 2000 Summer Olympics .

After the birth of her son, she continued her career in 2002. In the following years she was active in international tournaments up to class CIC ** / CCI ** . After starting in 2008 with her horse Calma Schelly again increasingly at the international three-star level, her first CCI four-star start after more than ten years followed at the Burghley Horse Trials at the end of 2010 . She herself commented on this:

It wasn't really planned that I would ride at this level again, but when you have such a great horse, you just have to go one step further. "

In 2011 another CCI four-star participation in the Badminton Horse Trials followed . Calma Schelly last competed in an international test at the CHIO Aachen 2011. At the beginning of 2012, the mare had to undergo surgery due to a tendon damage, and there was no comeback.

In the following years she went back to the 3 * event with Clooney and Let's Dance .

Marina Köhncke is a master of equine management and mentions Martin Plewa and Horst Karsten as her trainers . She continues to live with her family in Badendorf . Hans-Jürgen Köhncke (among other things the breeder of Toni Haßmann 's successful Derby horse Collin ), who was Mayor of Badendorf until 2013, is her father-in-law.
