Julia Mestern (born July 11, 1976 in Hamburg ) is a German eventing rider .

Life

Julia Mestern grew up in Hamburg-Rahlstedt . At the age of 12, she was initially sent to vault by her parents for health reasons, but then decided before she graduated from school that she wanted to make riding a profession. After graduating from high school in 1996, she completed an apprenticeship as a horse manager and graduated with honors in 1998 in Warendorf . From 2000 to 2008 she initially worked as an employed horse tanner at the Floggensee stud , then as an independent horse tanner on the same facility. In 2010 Mestern left Schleswig-Holstein and moved to the Bavarian main and state stud in Schwaiganger . In 2012 she passed the horse management exam and moved to a small riding facility in Hüttlingen, Württemberg .

In 2013 she and her partner set up her own independent riding facility in Babenhausen , but in spring 2015 she turned her back on southern Germany and moved back to Schleswig-Holstein. Since then she has been responsible for the training of dressage and eventing horses at the Rohlsdorfer Beek stud near Ratekau and initially started for the RV Bad Schwartau , but from May 2016 now for the PSFV Süseler Baum .

Athletic career

Already in 2004 and 2005 Mestern became the Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein regional champion in eventing with the Hanoverian stallion Schorsch (by Sherlock Holmes - Weltmeyer ). In 2006 it was enough for the vice state championship and also at the German team championship of eventing riders to the silver medal. In 2007, she first got on 14./15. July won the bronze medal at the German eventing team championship in Hohenberg-Krusemark before it earned international attention and won gold both individually and with the team at the European championships of the rural eventing riders in the Swedish Övedskloster . In the same year she also won the German runner-up in the dressage rider's professional championship and, for the third time, the state championship in eventing riders in Hamburg / Schleswig Holstein, two successes that she was able to repeat in 2008. Mester completed the year 2008 with a victory in the CCI *** in Boekelo, the Netherlands . In May 2009 she won the professional equestrian championship (CIC *) and reached 2nd place in the CIC *** of the 22nd International Marbach Eventing. In 2009 Mestern was able to assert himself at the CCI *** in Boekelo.

In 2010 Mestern finally reached her zenith with Schorsch by winning the German championship of eventing in Schenefeld . Julia Mestern was able to convince in 2011 with a 2nd place at the CCI ** in Vairano , Italy , but at the German Championships the defending champion had to settle for bronze , not two points behind the winner Andreas Ostholt .

Julia Mestern and Schorsch were nominated as a single rider for the European Eventing Championships 2011 in Luhmühlen. She finished in 19th place. Due to the strong competition, Julia Mestern and Schorsch were not appointed to the national eventing team in 2012 despite her successes and therefore missed participation in the 2012 Summer Olympics . In 2013 Schorsch retired from active tournament sport.

After a few years of abstinence from major tournament victories, Mestern made a name for himself again at the Württemberg Wallach Grand Prix IWest (from Grafenstolz - Grafenstein) and won the state championships Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein with him in 2015 and 2016 and won various CIC * tournaments and one CIC ** tournament. At the 2017 German Professional Equestrian Championships held as part of the CIC 3 * Marbach, she came second with Grand Prix . In September of that year, Mestern was part of the victorious German team at the CICO 3 * Waregem with Grand Prix , in the individual ranking she came fourth.
