About this picture

Schenefeld ( Low German : Scheenfeld ) is a town in the Pinneberg district in the southern part of the German state Schleswig-Holstein and part of the Hamburg metropolitan region .

Geography and traffic

The Hamburg suburb of Schenefeld in the Pinneberg district borders the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg in the south, south-west and south-east , more precisely on the districts of Rissen , Sülldorf , Iserbrook , Osdorf and Lurup ; in the northwest to the city of Pinneberg and in the north and northeast to the municipality of Halstenbek .

The river Düpenau flows across the city and is symbolically marked on the Schenefeld city arms .

Although Schenefeld belongs to Schleswig-Holstein, there were and still are infrastructural connections to Hamburg because of its geographical proximity. Up to July 1, 1993 there was a common postcode (2000), the affiliation to the local telephone network of Hamburg still exists today. In terms of transport, there is a public transport connection to Hamburg through the HVV . For these reasons, Schenefeld can be mistaken for a district of Hamburg.

history

Today's urban area is located in an ancient settlement area. The Schenefeld local researcher Martin Mulsow reports in his treatise on the early development of Schenefeld on finds such as arrowheads, scrapers and axes, remains of barrows and urn graves that prove settlement as early as the Stone Age. Schenefeld belongs in the wreath of the very old places in today's Pinneberg district .

The place is first mentioned by Adam von Bremen in his Gesta Hammaburgensis ecclesiae pontificum (II, 15: Scanafeld ), written around 1075 . The first written mention of the place dates from the year 1256. In it the dean of the Hamburg church transfers his possessions in Schenefeld and Sülldorf to a priest for use.

The establishment of the parish of Nienstedten , to which Schenefeld also belonged, must have taken place in the 12th century, although the first known mention of Nienstedten at present dates from 1297. This parish belonged to the county of Holstein-Pinneberg - more precisely to the parish bailiwick of Hatzburg - and was thus part of the Schauenburger Land, which means that the Reformation, unlike the rest of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, was officially introduced in 1561. In the Pinneberger-Hatzburger income and expenditure register of 1464/1465, Haye Hardenbach, the first resident of Schenefeld, is mentioned by name. After Count Otto V. von Holstein-Pinneberg died childless in 1640, his possessions were divided and the County of Holstein-Pinneberg was annexed to the Duchy of Holstein . Since the Danish king had become Duke of Holstein in personal union since 1474, Schenefeld came directly under the administration of the Danish crown, but remained part of the Duchy of Holstein as part of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation and from 1815 of the German Confederation . The Pinneberg lordship that arose in 1640 was dissolved in the Prussian district of Pinneberg in 1867.

No reliable statements can be made about the exact number of inhabitants until the first census in 1803, which showed a population of 391.

Through the Prussian district order of 1888, Schenefeld together with Sülldorf formed the district of Schenefeld, since 1897 also with cracks , which was dissolved again on April 1, 1924.

The development after the First World War had a decisive impact on today's cityscape. Until then, the main settlement area stretched on the road from Hamburg to Pinneberg , today's main street. Former powder sheds of a munitions factory, which was built during the First World War, were converted into residential houses after 1918. This was the nucleus of the district of Schenefeld settlement.

After the Second World War , the population grew steadily due to the settlement of bombed-out Hamburgers and refugees. Schenefeld experienced the greatest boost in the development of the population between 1960 and 1970 when many people from Hamburg moved there. During this time, the population almost doubled from 8,719 (1960) to 15,161 (1970).

On July 1, 1972, the city was granted city rights.

Several large companies are based in Schenefeld.

Harry-Brot GmbH has been baking bread in Schenefeld since March 1963 after the location in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld was given up and the headquarters were relocated to Schenefeld.

On June 1, 1975, the Pinneberger Verkehrsgesellschaft (PVG) inaugurated its new depot with its administrative headquarters at Osterbrooksweg 73 after moving from Rellingen . In 2000, PVG and Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein AG (VHH) merged to form an equal group with a joint management of the two transport companies until this company finally operated under the name VHH in December 2012. From Schenefeld the buses serve the west of Hamburg and large parts of the Pinneberg district.

On June 1, 1967, Theodor Friedrichs & Co. Meteorologische Geräte und Systeme GmbH moved from Hamburg-Niendorf to Schenefeld at Borgfelde 6. The company manufactures devices for measuring and transmitting weather data as well as laboratories for calibrating meteorological sensors and exports its products worldwide.

In the mid-1930s, the bricklayer Adolf Sandhack settled his business at Jahnstrasse 65 and began manufacturing concrete products in 1957. The first years were limited to trading in specially manufactured concrete parts and their installation. At the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1970s, manufacturing gave way more and more to the pure trading business and on March 1, 1978 a new hardware store was opened at Osterbrooksweg 50, as the production facility in the middle of a residential area had reached its limits. Today the family company Bauzentrum Sandhack is run by the third generation and employs 25 people.

The company Safex-Chemie GMBH was founded in 1973 as a service provider and manufacturer of chemical and technical special effects for film, television and theater productions by Günther Schaidt and has been owned by him and his wife Renate Brühl-Schaidt ever since. 1984 Günther Schaidt received an Oscar for Science and Development (Academy Scientific and Engineering Award) by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the development of an improved, non-toxic liquid for the production of fog and smoke in film production.

In addition, the companies Electraplan Solutions (underfloor installation technology), Interschalt maritime systems AG (overall electrotechnical systems for the maritime industry ), Hanseatischer Fine Food Service (formerly Schloss Göhrde frozen products) and Hermes Schleifmittel should be mentioned.

The city is hoping for a further boost from the construction of the XFEL X-ray laser . A 3.4 kilometer long tunnel was built from DESY in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld to Schenefeld. An underground experimental hall was built here, in which research is carried out with the X-ray flashes. Buildings for laboratories, offices, library and lecture hall were erected above the hall. There are also supply buildings. Research began at the end of 2017.

The so-called “Schenefeld City Center”, a shopping center with around 100 shops and restaurants, is also of regional importance . It is also home to one of Schleswig-Holstein's five casinos , Casino Schenefeld.

In 1975 the Spar head offices in Hamburg Süd and Hamburg Nord merged to form Pfeiffer & Schmidt OHG , based in Schenefeld, and formed the Spar head office in Hamburg. The administration and a large central warehouse were located in Schenefeld. In September 2005, Spar was taken over by Edeka . On March 31, 2011, the location was given up by Edeka.

Sports

The Spielvereinigung Blau-Weiß 96 Schenefeld is a popular sports club with a little over 3000 members. The club offers aikido , badminton , fitness , floorball , active leisure time activities, soccer , handball , judo , ju-jutsu , athletics , swimming , dancing , table tennis , gymnastics and volleyball . There are also offers for aroha, unicycling , linedance , gymnastics , yoga , Pilates , Nordic walking , trampoline , qigong and rehabilitation sports . The association has been at the forefront of the Pinneberg district for years when it comes to accepting the German sports badge .

The Schenefelder Tennis Club was founded in 1971 and has ten outdoor courts and a hall with three tennis courts for its 450 members on its own club grounds.

There are two large equestrian clubs for riders, the Friedrichshulde eV equestrian club, which regularly organizes various show jumping and dressage tournaments in the Friedrichshulde equestrian center, where Janne Friedericke Meyer-Zimmermann was also rented for years, and the Elbdörfer and Schenefelder equestrian club, which in addition to jumping - and dressage tournaments an international eventing tournament organized for years . This Schenefeld event has been held a total of 40 times since 1971. From 2006 to 2010 and 2013 Schenefeld hosted the German Championship. The sporting orientation was most recently a two-star CCI and a three-star short test to introduce young horses and riders to more difficult tasks. In 1985 the second European championship in vaulting took place in Schenefeld .

Another association is the Schießsportgemeinschaft Schenefeld von 1963 eV (SSGS 1963), which has shooting ranges that can be used all year round for air, small-caliber and large-caliber weapons (short barrel). Teams of the club successfully take part in league competitions at regional level.

The Versehrten Sport-Gemeinschaft (VSG) Schenefeld offers its 38 members endoprosthesis sports, health sports, gymnastics for restricted mobility, rehabilitation and disabled sports, swimming, senior sports and the acceptance of the sports badge.

There are two music trains in Schenefeld. The then elementary school and music teacher Hans Meißner founded a "Drummers and Pfeiffer Corps" in autumn 1954. The association was entered in the Pinneberg register of associations after it was renamed "Meißner-Spielmannszug" in 1973 in honor of the association's founder. On September 15, 2007, the association took part in the 50th Steuben Parade in New York .

At the beginning of the 1970s, a group of musicians separated from the Meißner miners' march and founded the Schenefeld rifle march's march, with a purely marching band. After disputes with the shooters, the musicians separated again in 1987 and became an independent association, the Spielmanns- und Fanfarenzug Schenefeld from 1987. After a musical realignment, the club name was changed to Musikzug Schenefeld von 1987 eV on January 1, 2010.

The smallest club in Schenefeld is the squash club "Treffnix" Schenefeld, founded in 1990, with three members.

The "SportWelt Schenefeld" association, founded in 2012, offers rehabilitation training to restore physical performance, and judo and tennis in special offers for children and young people.

schools

The first written records of a school in Schenefeld were recorded in 1686. In 1855, 100 children attended school, which was single-class until 1860 and then two-class. After the old school building was destroyed in a fire in 1884, the community decided to build a new school building, which was inaugurated in 1885. It was an elementary school for all children until 1965 when the secondary school was also being built in the premises.

The Gorch Fock School in the settlement was inaugurated on April 14, 1953. It was a combined elementary and secondary school until 1970 and has been a pure elementary school ever since.

In 1970 a large new building with an attached gymnastics and gymnastics hall was completed and put into operation as a school and sports center between the village and the settlement in the street Achter de Weiden. Both the Hauptschule and the Realschule moved into these premises. At the beginning of the 2010/2011 school year, these two schools merged to form the Achter de Weiden community school.

The Schenefeld grammar school began operations in 1970 as a branch of the Theodor Heuss grammar school in Pinneberg. In the first two years, the pupils were taught in the rooms of the new secondary school until a separate building was built in the Achter de Weiden school center in 1972, after which the branch became an independent grammar school.

Seven day care centers and a kindergarten-like facility prepare the children for school.

In addition to the state schools, there has been the Friedrichshulde children's and youth home in Schenefeld since the summer of 1952, which has since been renamed the "Friedrichshulde Curative Education Center". In addition to the living area, there is a state-approved, privately owned special school from 1st to 12th grade.

On January 1, 1966, a special school was founded in Schenefeld, which took over the three special school and two residential classes at that time. In 1977 it was named Heinrich Kielhorn School. At the beginning of the school year 1987/1988 there were only ten students who were taught in a single class. In June 1988 the school finally ceased operations.

The school for students was founded in Schenefeld in 1983 by an initiative of parents and teachers who wanted to support children with and without disabilities in an integrative school, individually according to their talents. The school received the teaching permit in August 1985 and started with a 1st and a 5th grade in the rooms of today's Volkshochschule Schenefeld on Blankeneser Chaussee. In 1990 the upper classes moved to pavilions in Pinneberg-Waldenau. The student school has been a state-recognized substitute school since 1995. In 2006 the school moved completely to Pinneberg.

Parishes

The Schenefelder belonged to the parish of Nienstedten for centuries until they were assigned to the Blankenese church, which was consecrated in 1896. This congregation became formally independent on April 1, 1902, and in 1934 a pastorate with exclusive responsibility for Schenefeld was established, which in 1953 became the first Schenefeld pastorate.

With the inauguration of St. Stephen's Church on May 17, 1953, the Schenefeld parish became independent. In 1960 Schenefeld was divided into two districts due to the strong population growth. This was finally manifested with the inauguration of the Paulskirche on July 1, 1962.

The first members of the New Apostolic congregation came to Schenefeld on January 1, 1900. From 1925 to 1931 they were able to hold their church service twice a week in a living room and gain additional members. The formal establishment of the community took place on October 2, 1949 and on August 6, 1950, a separate church was inaugurated.

The Joshua congregation (Evangelical Free Church / Baptists) was founded in 1994 as a house group of the Joshua congregation in Hamburg-Ottensen and has been an independent congregation in the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches since 2004 .

Another free church in Schenefeld is the Anskar Church ( evangelical-free church / evangelical-charismatic ),

The St. Brother Konrad community in Hamburg-Osdorf is responsible for the Roman Catholic population.

The Schenefeld volunteer fire brigade has existed since 1888. In 1965 a youth fire brigade was set up to promote the next generation . In 2000, a woman from her own offspring was accepted into the active fire service for the first time. In 2009 there were in the active fire brigade: 6 female and 66 female comrades, 2 in the reserve, 13 in the honorary department (65 years and over); as well as 30 children and young people between 11 and 18 years in the youth fire brigade.
