Westerhorn ( Low German : Westerhoorn ) is a municipality in the Pinneberg district in Schleswig-Holstein . Am Beek, Dauenhof, Dauenhof stop, Kuhberg, Mölberg and Ölberg are in the municipality.

Geography and traffic

Westerhorn is located about 8 km northwest of Barmstedt and, together with the communities of Brande-Hörnerkirchen , Osterhorn and Bokel, belongs to the Hörnerkirchen district . The Kremper Au and the Westerhorner Bek flow through the community. Westerhorn consists of the districts Westerhorn and Dauenhof with the station of the same name, which is on the Hamburg-Altona - Neumünster - Kiel / Flensburg railway and belongs to the Hamburg transport association . The highway 23 with its slip road Hohenfelde (Steinburg) is about three kilometers away. The construction of the A 20 is being planned , which will lead north of the A 7 (Bad Bramstedt) past Westerhorn and continue via Glückstadt under the Elbe in the direction of Lower Saxony.

The landscape protection area Winselmoor / Hörnerau-Niederung on the north-western boundary of the municipality to the neighboring district of Steinburg is characteristic of the townscape . As with the neighboring Hohenfelder- / Breitenburgermoor , which is also managed from Westerhorn, this is a raised bog in which peat has been mined industrially for several decades .

history

On May 3, 1945, the city of Hamburg was handed over to the British . The Second World War ended with the subsequent partial surrender for the north-west region on May 4, 1945 and the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht on May 8, 1945 . At the beginning of June, the British set up a camp for forty German prisoners of war on the village street of Westerhorn on the premises of the Horn family .

A small community park (location) with a pond is on the railway line.
