Heist is a municipality in the Pinneberg district in Schleswig-Holstein .
Geographical location
Heist lies on the Geestrand bordering the Haseldorfer Marsch , in which the municipality also has a share. The municipality borders on Holm in the south, on Hetlingen , Haseldorf and Haselau in the west, on Moorrege in the north and on Appen in the east.
history
Heist was first mentioned in a document in 1276. It belonged to the von Heest family. The knight Hartwich von Heest sold the village to the Uetersen monastery in 1361 . In the middle of the 19th century the number of inhabitants was around 400 and changed little to around 500 by the Second World War . After 1945 the number of inhabitants jumped to around 1,500 due to the influx of refugees from the eastern regions. It is currently around 2800.

Economy and Transport
Heist is mainly agricultural .
Heist is on federal highway 431 between the cities of Wedel and Uetersen . There are also bus connections with these places .
The municipality also has a commercial airfield, the Uetersen airfield , ICAO identification EDHE, followed by the Tävsmoor / Haselauer Moor nature reserve . The Uetersen airfield has been one of the most frequented general aviation (AL) airfields in Germany since the 1970s (around 60,000 aircraft movements annually). It is home to two glider clubs, several powered flight clubs and commercial flight schools.
The approval was given in close cooperation with the municipality and the nature conservation authority, as this is a tourist attraction in the Tävsmoor nature reserve.
The "Johannenhof" riding stables with an affiliated riding club are known nationwide.
The Hanoverian music group Wohnraumhelden has dedicated a song to the community with the title “Squadron Hymne Heist”.
