The Anskar Church Germany e. V. (AKD) is a Christian free church that was named after the first archbishop of Hamburg and Bremen , Ansgar (or Anskar, 801 - 865 ). It sees itself as belonging to both the evangelical and the charismatic movement ; it is also included in the neo-charismatic movement . Your congregations are close to the German Evangelical Alliance (DEA). The Anskar Church has been a guest member of the Association of Evangelical Free Churches (VEF) since November 2007, and has been a full member there since autumn 2014. Since 2013 she has been a member of the Working Group of Christian Churches (ACK) Hessen-Rheinhessen.

The Anskar Church was founded in 1988 by the former Lutheran pastor Wolfram Kopfermann in Hamburg after he left the church and described itself as Lutheran in its initial phase. Wolfram Kopfermann resigned on the 25th anniversary of Anskar on September 22, 2013 and handed over his office to Tillmann Krüger. Since 2005 he has been pastor of the Anskar Church in Hamburg-Mitte, which he has also headed since January 2008. He is also a member of the leadership group of the Evangelical Alliance in Hamburg and in the working group for evangelical theology (AfeT). In April 2019, Krüger moved to the Baptist Peace Church in Braunschweig. Since then, Alexander Hirsch has been the new overall director of the Anskar Church.

There are churches in Hamburg (center and west), Marburg , Nuremberg , Wetzlar and Bad Arolsen, as well as a church planting project in Bayreuth . The Anskar Church Leipzig project, founded in 2000, ended in 2008.

The Anskar Church makes use of the Christian Scouting Society Royal Rangers in its child and youth work .
