Roswitha Quadflieg (born November 3, 1949 in Zurich ) is a German writer and book designer . One of her best-known works is the illustration of the classic children's book The Neverending Story by Michael Ende .

life and work

Roswitha Quadflieg is the daughter of the actor Will Quadflieg and the curative educator Benita Quadflieg from Vegesack, one of her brothers is the actor Christian Quadflieg , her half-sister the actress Sabina Trooger .

Roswitha Quadflieg grew up in Hamburg . From 1969 to 1974 she studied painting , illustration , graphics and typography at what was then the University of Applied Sciences for Design and the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg . Quadflieg graduated as a qualified designer .

Raamin press

In 1973 she founded the Raamin-Presse , her own publishing workshop in Schenefeld on the outskirts of Hamburg. There she printed works of world literature with her own original graphics in different techniques in limited editions. Purchases were made from public and private collections at home and abroad. Her work has been shown in various exhibitions. She received several awards. A total of 28 prints were published, the last being the Hamburg chapter from Samuel Beckett's German Diaries as the first edition.

With the 30th anniversary of the Raamin-Presse, which was honored with an exhibition in the Hamburg State Library , Roswitha Quadflieg closed the press in 2003. The workshop went to the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg as a foundation , the archive was purchased by the Johannes a Lasco Library in Emden . In 2013 the Museum für Druckkunst Leipzig dedicated a retrospective to the book art work of the Raamin-Presse, and in 2014 the Literaturhaus Berlin.

Graphic designer

In addition to her work for the Raamin-Presse, Roswitha Quadflieg also worked internationally as a graphic artist and illustrated Michael Ende's novel The Neverending Story as well as his works Das kleine Lumpenkasperle and Lirum Larum Willi Why as well as Unser Herr Böckelmann by Walter Kempowski .

Writer

Since 2003 Roswitha Quadflieg has been working exclusively as a writer. Her first book The Death of My Brother was published in 1985. So far, she has created a total of sixteen book titles. As an author, she gives readings in Germany and Switzerland . In 2006 she initiated and supervised the international Beckett in Town festival , which took place in Hamburg on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the Irish writer and Nobel Prize winner Samuel Beckett .

In 2008, two plays by Roswitha Quadflieg were premiered: Handy at the Schlosstheater Celle and Atschüüß, mien Leev at the Hamburg Ohnsorg Theater , a Low German translation of her play Until then , developed from her novel of the same name . This was also made into a film under the title A matter of the heart with Martin Benrath in the lead role, ZDF 1997. In 2009 her first radio play Die Angst hat keine Augen was broadcast on SWR , in 2012 her second and in 2015 her third radio play Der Glück und KönigsSohn (both developed from the novels of the same name). In 2015, her play Handy was performed as a live radio play at TAK - Theater im Aufbau Haus Berlin.

She has lived in Berlin since 2012. Her partner is the doctor, former escape helper and publicist Burkhart Veigel . She is a member of the PEN Center Germany and the Association of German Writers .
