Matthias Baumann (born April 5, 1963 in Munich ) is a former German eventing rider .

In 1986 Baumann was second in the German championship, in 1987 he won silver with the team at the European championship. For the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , he qualified with Shamrock after his other horse had blundered alabaster . In Seoul, Baumann took sixth place in the individual ranking with 68.80 points. The German team competed in Seoul with Claus Erhorn , Matthias Baumann, Ralf Ehrenbrink and Thies Kaspareit . While Ehrenbrink was disqualified, Erhorn, Baumann and Kaspareit won the gold medal in the team classification.

In 1990 Baumann was third with the team at the World Cup. In 1990 on Shamrock and in 1991 and 1992 on alabaster , Baumann won the German championship three times in a row. He was the first rider to do a hat trick at German championships. At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona Baumann finished 34th on Alabaster with 157.40 points and thus delivered the discarded result for the team classification. After Herbert Blöcker , Ralf Ehrenbrink and Cord Mysegaes achieved third place in the team ranking, Baumann was also honored with the bronze medal as the fourth team rider. Four years later, Baumann was nominated as a substitute rider for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , but was not used there.

Matthias Baumann completed his Abitur at the Luitpold-Gymnasium in Wasserburg am Inn and then studied veterinary medicine at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich ; In 1991 he received his doctorate. Since 1994 he has been running a training and rehabilitation facility for sport horses in Reichertsheim .
