Rudolf Lippert (rider)

Rudolf Lippert (born October 29, 1900 in Leipzig , † March 1945 near Bielefeld ) was a German eventing rider .

He was a member of the Hanover Cavalry School and completed his first international competitions as early as the 1920s. a. 1928 with the IX. Olympic Games in Amsterdam . Otherwise he achieved remarkable achievements in the German championships. At the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 he won the gold medal in eventing riding on "Fasan" with the German team together with Ludwig Stubbendorff on "Nurmi" and Konrad von Wangenheim on "Kurfürst" .

During World War II , he served as Colonel and Commander of the 51st Panzer Regiment in October 1941 , when he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross . As major general and commander of the 5th Panzer Division , his troops fought in East Prussia ( Gumbinnen area ) and in the Kurland basin . In February 1945 he was involved in retreat fighting near Bielefeld, where he was killed in March 1945.
