Edmund Coffin

Edmund "Tad" Sloane Coffin (born May 9, 1955 in Toledo , Ohio ) is a former American eventing rider and Olympic champion.

The nephew of pastor and peace activist William Sloane Coffin grew up on Long Island and started riding at the age of ten. From 1973 he was trained by the French Olympic medalist Jack Le Goff . At the Pan American Games in Mexico City in 1975 , Coffin won the gold medal in both the individual and team standings. He celebrated his greatest success at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal with victories in individual competitions and with the team, each with the horse Bally-Cor .

Thereupon Coffin resigned from elite sport. He lives with his family in Charlottesville , Virginia , works as a junior trainer and makes high-quality riding saddles full- time.
