Because of the Olympic boycott , Hoy could not compete in Moscow in 1980. However, he was nominated for the alternatively hosted festival in Fontainebleau , where he won the team bronze medal with Davey .
His first of six Olympic Games so far followed in 1984. At the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona , Hoy won the gold medal with the Australian team. He repeated this success in 1996 in Atlanta and 2000 in Sydney ; In 2000 he also came second in the individual competition. In Atlanta, Hoy was the flag bearer of the Australian delegation during the opening ceremony.
