from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Australian International Three Day Event (known as Adelaide International Horse Trials until 2007 ) is an annual eventing event . The venue is the Adelaide Park Lands , the city park around the center of the Australian city of Adelaide .

It is the only competition in the southern hemisphere that is classified as the highest category CCI **** by the World Equestrian Federation FEI (the other competitions at this level are the Badminton Horse Trials , the Burghley Horse Trials , the Rolex Kentucky Three Day , the Luhmühlen Eventing and the Étoiles de Pau ).

In 1997 the first Adelaide International Horse Trials took place. They replaced the Gawler Horse Trials held since 1954 in the city of Gawler , north of Adelaide , the venue for the 1986 World Championship. The new event was initially classified as CCI ***, but was upgraded to CCI **** in 1999. The competition had to be suspended in 2007 due to an equine flu epidemic. From 2011 to 2016 the tournament was part of the FEI Classics , a tournament series created by the FEI.
