Christopher "Chris" Burton (born November 22, 1981 in Toowoomba , Queensland ) is an Australian eventing rider .

Burton started riding at the age of three on his parents' farm. As early as 2003, Deo Juvante competed in the 4 * event in Adelaide , and five years later he won it for the first time.

He played his first international championship in 2010 at the World Equestrian Games in Lexington (Kentucky) . He started there as an individual rider outside of the team. To increase his chances of participating in the 2012 Olympics, Chris Burton moved to Dorset, England in 2011 . In Australia he lives in Wilberforce . In the same year he finished the overall ranking of the World Cup in second place.

He played his first Olympic Games in London in 2012 , where Leilani was part of the Australian team and was one of the top 20 participants in the individual ranking. In 2012 and 2013 he won the CICO 3 * at the CHIO Aachen . In autumn 2013 he took over the gelding Jamaimo from the Australian rider Wilhelm Enzinger. They made their joint tournament debut at CCI 4 * Adelaide, which they ended with a win. The World Equestrian Games in 2014 he was with Jamaimo at the start, but waived before the field day on further participation.

In the 2016 Olympic Games , Chris Burton took part with Santano II . Here he was in second place after the dressage and was one of the few riders who did not get any minus points in the field. So he was in the lead after the site. In the final competitions, however , Burton and Santano II showed weaknesses: Eight penalty points in the team competition allowed Australia to slip to the bronze rank, with a further eight penalty points in the individual competition, he finally missed his chance for an individual medal and only came in fifth.

A few weeks after the Olympics, Burton won the Burghley Horse Trials for the first time .

He trains with the Australian dressage rider Brett Parbery and since 2010 also with Prue Barratt.
