Andreas Ostholt (born March 21, 1978 in Warendorf , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German eventing rider . In June 2015 he was ranked 12th in the world.

Career

Ostholt grew up on his parents' farm, where he first came into contact with horses. At the age of 14 he concentrated on riding, before he was active in modern pentathlon .

In 2011 he became German champion in the saddle of Franco Jeas and was given the opportunity to take part in the 2011 European Championships . There he retired with Franco Jeas in the field. A year later, Ostholt and Franco Jeas were on the longlist for the Olympic Games in London . He achieved one of his greatest individual successes in May 2016 with second place at the Badminton Horse Trials .

Andreas Ostholt was nominated for the 2016 Summer Olympics with So is et . So it passed the constitutional examination, but substitute rider Julia Krajewski took over from Ostholt in the team. This was justified by the fact that Ostholt Wallach had temporarily walked irregularly at the final training camp in Germany due to a previously lost horseshoe. Andreas Ostholt was able to train again with his horse afterwards, but in order to avoid possible risks, it was decided against his Olympic start.

As a chief sergeant, Ostholt is head of the equestrian department at the Bundeswehr sports school in Warendorf.

He has been married since 2010 and lives in Warendorf. Here he took over the riding facility from Hans Günter Winkler , with whom he worked closely until his death. Andreas Ostholt's older brother is eventing rider Frank Ostholt .
