FEI Nations Cup 2014 (Eventing)

The FEI Nations Cup 2014 in Eventing (2014 FEI Nations Cup ™ Eventing) was the third season of Nations Cup eventing .

Course of the tournament series

As in the previous two years, all tests of the tournament series took place in Europe in 2014. The special stages were advertised as CICO 3 * or CCIO 3 *. In 2014, the series extended from March 19 to October 12 and thus once again covered the entire green season (period in which riding tournaments can be held outside of halls due to weather conditions).

The winning team received eleven points in each of the valuation jumps, the following teams a decreasing number of valuation points. The teams received 1000 minus points in the test for each participant who did not finish the test. Thus, all teams had a result and received (as far as they were among the best nine teams in the test) evaluation points for the Nations Cup.

The exams

1st test: France

The French national eventing tournament has been held in Fontainebleau since 2009 . In 2014, the tournament was held from March 19 to 23, 2014, and for the first time was renamed The Crazy Ride .

It was already clear in advance that there would be new winners: In the team classification of the CICO there was no German team at the start, the previous year's winner of the individual classification ( Michael Jung ) only competed in the CIC 2 * in Fontainebleau, which was taking place at the same time.

The French team was in the lead from the first partial test. The Netherlands team was consistently in second place in the interim scores and in the final result. In the individual ranking, Elaine Pen and Vittoria Panizzon with their horses got 42.4 minus points, due to the better result in the area, Elaine Pen won.

2nd test: Ireland

A Nations Cup was held for the first time in April 2014 as part of the Ballindenisk Horse Trials eventing equestrian tournament. The tournament, which took place on the grounds of Ballindenisk House near Watergrasshill in County Cork, Ireland , was held from April 11-14, 2014.

In the team competition only three teams competed, of which the team from Great Britain was victorious. In the individual competition, Oliver Townend and nine-year-old gelding Cooley Master Class won with a German lead .

3rd test: United Kingdom

The British stage of the Nations Cup 2014, the Houghton International Horse Trials , took place from May 22nd to 25th, 2014. The venue is Houghton Hall in Norfolk .

Only four teams started in the team competition. With the 12-year-old Campino, Mark Todd secured victory in the individual standings with a clear lead of almost five minus points, and with this result he also contributed to the victory of the New Zealand team.

4th test: Poland

The Polish Nations Cup tournament took place in the Lower Silesian town of Strzegom . The Strzegom Horse Trials were held June 26-29, 2014. The range of exams for starters was very extensive in Strzegom, so in addition to the CICO, there were also CIC exams at 1 * and 2 * levels and CCI exams at 1 *, 2 * and 3 * levels.

In the Nations Cup, the leadership of the German team was not endangered in any part of the test. The first three places in the individual ranking went to three starter pairs from the German team, each of them championship riders with their most successful horses. The young British team followed some distance away in second place, all the other teams were far behind.

The German Nations Cup tournaments in five disciplines, including versatility, took place in Aachen. Versatility tests have been held in Aachen's Soers since 2005: In September 2005 the test test for the 2006 World Equestrian Games was held, which was held here twelve months later. The German Nations Cup in eventing has been an integral part of the CHIO Aachen since 2007 .

The second week of the CHIO tournament, in which the Nations Cup was held, took place from July 15th to 20th in 2014.

6th test: Sweden

The last evaluation test of the Nations Cup before the World Equestrian Games in Normandy took place in Sweden. On the beach of Malmö, where the European Championships took place last year , Malmö Eventing was held from August 1st to 3rd, 2014 .

In the Nations Cup competition in Malmö, the starting field remained clear, 32 starter pairs and four national teams started. It was dominated by the German riders who came in the first three places in the individual ranking and also won the Nations Cup with eleven minus points.

7th test: Italy

The Italian Nations Cup for eventing riders also took place in 2014 in Montelibretti . The test was carried out from September 19-21, 2014.

After the Nations Cup had only had a smaller field in the previous year, the number of participants was again significantly undercut: In the CICO 3 *, eleven horse-rider pairs competed, from which two teams were formed. The course was very demanding, so that only six couples made it to the finish line. No starter crossed the finish line in the allowed time.

8th test: Belgium

For the second time Internationaal Eventing Waregem in Waregem was the Nations Cup tournament of Belgium. In the 2014 season, the tournament took place from September 25th to 28th.

After the dressage and jumping partial tests, a close duel between the teams from Germany and Great Britain was to be expected, the gap was only 4.3 minus points. However, since the British team rider Lucy Wiegersma, who was fifth at the time, withdrew her further start before the cross-country test, Germany went into the field with a clear advantage and finally won the test. There were five teams at the start.

9th test: Netherlands

The end of the tournament series was again Military Boekelo , the Nations Cup tournament of the Netherlands. The tournament was held in Boekelo from October 9th to 12th, 2014.

In the team standings, there was a close decision between New Zealand, Australia and Great Britain, with New Zealand winning the test with a lead of 1.6 minus points in the end. The Australians had to accept several mistakes in the final jumping competition, so that in the end they fell back to fourth place. Out of three out of ten teams, only two out of four riders crossed the finish line. The Swiss team was hit even more extreme: none of the four team riders finished the cross-country test, with a result of 3000 minus points the team came in tenth place.

Overall rating

The seven best results from each team were included in the overall ranking. The German team, which skipped the first two stages, but then won five of the seven other special stages, won the overall standings with 67 points. Great Britain and France, who both also took part in seven stages each, follow in second and third place in the overall standings. All other teams follow at a considerable distance.
